Mimosa Cross

A Forty-Year Running Tradition

The Mimosa Cross is one of the longest-running and most beloved road races in the Reggiano Apennines. Founded in 1986, it takes place every year in Albinea, a municipality in the province of Reggio Emilia in Emilia-Romagna, on the first hills rising towards the Apennines. The organization is entrusted to Polisportiva Borzanese, in collaboration with the Municipality of Albinea and with the support of local entities and organizations.

A Race That Brings Mimosa to Women

What makes this event special is its date: the Mimosa Cross traditionally takes place around March 8th, Women's Day. It's no coincidence that its symbol is the mimosa, distributed free of charge to all registered women. The race is part of the municipal festival Primavera di donne (Spring of Women), a calendar of initiatives dedicated to the valorization of women and equality that, in Albinea, accompanies spring with meetings, shows, and sporting events.

Three Routes for Every Pace

The Mimosa Cross offers a formula that satisfies both competitive athletes and Sunday walkers:

• Competitive race of approximately 24 km, reserved for registered athletes and runners with a valid competitive medical certificate;
• two non-competitive walks of 12.1 km and 5.2 km, open to everyone, ideal for families and groups of friends.

The meeting point and start are set at Piazza Cavicchioni, in the heart of Albinea, from where the routes wind along the roads and paths of the surrounding hills, with several refreshment points along the course.

Part of a Larger Circuit

The race is not an isolated event: in its recent editions, it has been included as a stage of the Circuito dei Gessi messiniani (Messinian Gypsum Circuit) and other running circuits in the Reggio Emilia area linked to Uisp, confirming its established place in the provincial sports calendar. An opportunity, for those visiting the area, to discover a less touristy corner of Emilia but rich in nature, good food, and hospitality.
