The grand parade of allegorical floats in the heart of the Messapian city
The Mesagne Carnival, located in the heart of the Brindisi province in Apulia, centers around the captivating Allegorical Float Parade that winds through the city center amidst color, music, and joy. Born as an offshoot of the older Torre Santa Susanna Carnival, the event has grown rapidly to become one of the most anticipated winter highlights in Mesagne, drawing families, young people, and curious visitors along the entire route.
The absolute stars of the show are the massive papier-mâché allegorical floats, crafted by the master artisans of the EBALON Association of Torre Santa Susanna and brought to Mesagne for the parade. Each float tells a unique story—from satire to fantasy and cinematic characters—moving slowly through the streets, surrounded by costumed groups, choreography, and music. Alongside the floats, hundreds of participants march: local schools, cultural, sports, and volunteer associations, and everyday citizens in costume, creating a celebration that truly involves the entire community.
More than just a show to watch, the Mesagne Carnival is an experience to live: the organizers' stated goal is to foster intergenerational connection, inclusion, and a sense of belonging to the local community. The procession, accompanied by masks, music, and roving performers, winds through the town streets until it reaches the central Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, where the festivities continue with entertainment and dancing.
The program does not forget the little ones: the Carnevalino, organized by the Carmelite Cenacle at the Teatro Shalom of the Carmelite Fathers, offers games, dances, small shows, and entertainment designed for children and families in a welcoming atmosphere that encourages even the shyest participants to join in.
Mesagne, with its beautiful historic center dominated by the Norman-Swabian Castle, offers an ideal setting to experience Carnival in an authentic Salento-Brindisi context. The parade is free and open to everyone: just put on a mask and let yourself be swept away by the festive atmosphere that takes over the city.
The 3rd edition of the Mesagne Carnival took place in mid-February 2026, confirming the growth of this now beloved event. The heart of the celebration was the allegorical float parade on Saturday, February 14, accompanied by the Carnevalino dedicated to children at the Teatro Shalom. The event was organized by the EBALON Association of Torre Santa Susanna in collaboration with Pro Loco Mesagne and authorized by the Municipality of Mesagne (resolution no. 7/2026 of the Extraordinary Commissioner).
