The polenta cocia festival in Mezzolago, Ledro Valley
The Megapolenta di Patate is a gastronomic festival that brings Mezzolago to life every summer. This small village, part of the Municipality of Ledro in the province of Trento, is nestled in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Overlooking Lake Ledro and surrounded by mountains, the village welcomes residents and tourists alike to enjoy a signature dish of the valley: polenta cocia, prepared according to a traditional recipe using locally grown potatoes.
The heart of the festival is the polenta cocia di patate, a hearty, rustic specialty rooted in the peasant cuisine of the Ledro Valley. The polenta is served with cheese, "capuss" (local cabbage), and a glass of wine—a simple, honest pairing that captures the authentic flavors of the Trentino mountains. The event is a wonderful opportunity to rediscover a dish passed down through generations and kept alive by the dedication of local volunteers.
The Megapolenta di Patate is more than just a traditional dinner; it is a true village festival defined by taste, tradition, and conviviality. Polenta service begins in the late afternoon and continues into the evening, when the square in Mezzolago transforms into an open-air dance floor. Live music and ballroom dancing keep guests entertained until late, creating a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Mezzolago, an association founded in 1952 that works to preserve local traditions. Thanks to the efforts of its volunteers, the festival remains a staple of the Ledro summer and a perfect excuse to explore the Ledro Valley, with its lake, mountain trails, and the delicious cuisine of Trentino.
