About Carapelle Carnival

The Matteo Esposto Carapelle Carnival is the signature carnival festival of the town of Carapelle, in the Province of Foggia. Promoted by the Pro Loco Carapelle APS in partnership with the local municipality, the event revives a long-lost tradition: allegorical floats, masks, live music, dancing, and activities for families bring Piazza Giovanni Paolo II and the town streets to life in the heart of the Tavoliere delle Puglie.

The Carapelle Carnival in the Tavoliere delle Puglie

The Matteo Esposto Carapelle Carnival is the premier carnival event in the Municipality of Carapelle, a small town in the Province of Foggia nestled in the plains of the Tavoliere delle Puglie. The festival is promoted by the Pro Loco Carapelle APS in collaboration with the municipal administration and local sponsors, representing one of the most cherished moments of the year for the local community.

A returning tradition

Dedicated to the memory of Matteo Esposto, the festival marks the return of Carnival to the town after many years of absence. As highlighted by the administration, it had been decades since Carapelle last hosted such a spectacle: the revival of the event has allowed associations, parents, children, and citizens to rediscover the festive and communal spirit of Carnival, amidst colors, confetti, and joy.

Allegorical floats, masks, and music

The highlight of the day is the grand parade of allegorical floats, which travels through the town center accompanied by masked groups, live music, and dancing. The program includes activities designed for all ages, with strong participation from families and children.

  • Parade of allegorical floats along the town streets;
  • Masks and costumed groups, blending creativity with popular satire;
  • Live music and dancing in the square;
  • Playful activities for children in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II.

The heart of the festival: Piazza Giovanni Paolo II

The nerve center of the event is Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, the gathering point for the floats and the hub for entertainment, from which the parade sets off to wind through the city streets. The festive atmosphere that envelops the entire town is concentrated around this square.

A community event

More than just a parade, the Carapelle Carnival is a community project: an occasion where the Pro Loco, families, and local associations collaborate to restore a sense of identity to Carapelle, rooted in the popular traditions of Puglia and the Tavoliere. It is a free event open to everyone, combining folklore, entertainment, and the joy of togetherness.
