Every year in early August, the historic center of Carovigno, a town in the Province of Brindisi overlooking the Salento hinterland, transforms into a sprawling journey of flavors, music, and traditions. Masserie nel Borgo and Sustainable Wines was born from an idea by the Sommarco wine bar, which for several years has involved local masserie and agricultural businesses in a festival integrated into the city's summer calendar. The result is a convivial event that brings local producers' stands and the wines of the Sommarco cellar to Via Cattedrale.

A Journey Through Masserie, Flavors, and Sustainability

The heart of the event is the promotion of typical products from local masserie: cheeses, vegetables, preserves, olive oil, and specialties of the Apulian peasant tradition, offered in a tasting trail that celebrates conviviality and local culture. Accompanying the tastings is a selection of sustainable wines curated by Sommarco, designed to introduce the public to producers most attentive to the environment and vineyard practices.

Sustainability is not just an oenological theme but a true guiding thread of the event, with talks and meetings dedicated to the terrestrial and marine biodiversity of Salento, which over the years have seen the participation of organizations such as the Torre Guaceto Management Consortium, the Dune Costiere Park, and Slow Food Alto Salento.

The evenings of Masserie nel Borgo are marked by Salento folk music: mandolin circles, folk ensembles, traditional groups, and pizzica performances enliven Via Cattedrale and the courtyards of the village, often continuing late into the night with closing DJ sets. It is a way to rediscover the traditional repertoire of Carovigno and Puglia in a festive atmosphere accessible to all.
