A parade of allegorical floats and costumed groups along the seafronts of Villa Rosa and Martinsicuro
In the heart of the beach season, when the shores of Martinsicuro are bustling with locals and tourists, the Summer Carnival brings the festive atmosphere usually reserved for February out onto the streets. It is a summer revival of the traditional carnival: allegorical floats, costumed groups, live music, disguises, and confetti parade along the coastline of this town in the province of Teramo, Northern Abruzzo, just a stone's throw from the border with the Marche region.
The event is split into two distinct appointments along two different stretches of the Martinsicuro coastline. The first takes place in the hamlet of Villa Rosa, along the picturesque Lungomare Italia; the second reaches the center of Martinsicuro, on the Lungomare Europa. On both evenings, the procession comes to life at sunset, when the lights of the floats and the costumes of the masked groups create a particularly scenic spectacle overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
The Summer Carnival is promoted by the MartinVilla Association with the patronage of the municipal administration. The involvement of local neighborhoods and numerous community groups is considered the key to the event's success: the construction of the floats, the preparation of costumes, and the entertainment are all born from the voluntary work of local families and groups. As the organizers emphasize, the event "unites generations and diverse realities" and represents a tourism promotion opportunity that perfectly blends tradition with local appeal.
Located at the northern tip of the province of Teramo, at the mouth of the Tronto river, Martinsicuro is one of the most popular seaside destinations in Abruzzo. The Summer Carnival is part of a rich calendar of summer events that enliven the coast during July and August, including concerts, shows, and traditional gatherings. For those spending their holidays on the Adriatic Riviera, the float parade is the perfect opportunity to experience the festive and popular soul of the town.
The 2026 Summer Carnival returns to the seafronts of Martinsicuro with two events confirmed by the municipal summer calendar: August 1 in the hamlet of Villa Rosa and August 8 in Martinsicuro. As per tradition, the evenings will feature a parade of allegorical floats and costumed groups, with music and entertainment along the coast. The event is organized by the MartinVilla Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Martinsicuro. The detailed program for both evenings is usually released in the weeks leading up to the event.
The detailed program for the two evenings (parade route, participating groups, and times) has not yet been published and will be announced by the MartinVilla Association and the Municipality of Martinsicuro in the weeks preceding the event.
The parades take place on Lungomare Italia (Villa Rosa hamlet) and Lungomare Europa (Martinsicuro), in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo.
By car: take the Val Vibrata exit on the A14 motorway, then follow the SS16 Adriatica. By train: Martinsicuro-Villa Rosa station on the Bologna-Bari Adriatic line. The seafronts are within walking distance from the stations.
The event is free and held outdoors. Evenings generally begin around 9:00 PM. During the events, municipal ordinances regarding traffic and beverage service may be in effect.
