About Martignano Festival

Every May, the hillside suburb of Martignano, northeast of Trento, transforms into a massive open-air tavern. The Spring Festival, also known as "Entorno al paes", is one of the longest-running and most popular neighborhood celebrations in the city: local association-run inns, luganega sausage pasta, international dishes, ska concerts, 60s and 70s revivals, the Martignana race, and the traditional procession. During the peak weekends, the Martignano park draws up to three thousand people per evening.

A neighborhood festival half a century in the making

The Martignano Spring Festival, historically known as "Entorno al paes", is the celebration that brings the hillside suburb of Martignano to life every May. As one of the historic districts of the Municipality of Trento, perched on the slopes of Mount Calisio to the northeast of the city, it is a cornerstone of local identity. Now in its 52nd edition in 2026, the event is organized by the Martignano Cultural and Recreational Activities Committee and fills the park and village streets with thousands of visitors from across the Autonomous Province of Trento.

Inns and cuisine: from luganega to couscous

The heart of the festival lies in the inns set up by local associations: eleven food stands that rotate traditional dishes under the marquee in the park and in Piazza Menghin. A must-try is the luganega sausage pasta, the quintessential Trentino sausage, served alongside polenta, canederli, and homemade desserts. Martignano has always been a multi-ethnic neighborhood, and its menu reflects this: alongside Trentino flavors, you will find offerings from around the world, from Moroccan couscous to Eastern European specialties, making it one of the most cosmopolitan gastronomic experiences in the entire Trentino region.

Music, sports, and tradition

The program balances entertainment with popular devotion. Evenings come alive with live music: from the Friday ska concert—a cult event featuring the historic "Martignano All Ska"—to the 60s and 70s revival with bands like the Cugini di Montagna, and DJ sets that keep the park buzzing until late. There is also open-air theater, a book market, animated readings for little ones, and bouncy castles for children.

  • La Martignana: the neighborhood running race, held in conjunction with the Calisio half-marathon.
  • Global Dinners: themed evenings dedicated to the cuisines of the village's diverse communities.
  • The procession in honor of Mary Help of Christians, blending celebration with religious tradition.
  • Concerts by the choirs Monte Calisio and S. Isidoro, guardians of traditional Trentino folk singing.

An iconic event for Trento

During the festival, the village of Martignano is closed to traffic, with parking organized along the perimeter, and the park becomes a stage for gastronomy and entertainment. More than just a food festival, the Spring Festival is a collective ritual that strengthens the bonds of one of Trento's most vibrant neighborhoods in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. With its grassroots atmosphere and welcoming spirit, it remains one of the most beloved events of the Trentino spring.
