A day dedicated to the summer truffle in the medieval village of Campagnatico
The Maremma Truffle Festival in Campagnatico, in the province of Grosseto, is the event that celebrates the Tuber Aestivum Vitt., the prized summer truffle that grows in the woods of the Tuscan Maremma. Organized by the Pro Loco of Campagnatico, the event offers an original format that weaves together technical insight, field experience, and culinary conviviality, all set within one of the most evocative medieval villages in the Ombrone valley.
The day is divided into three distinct moments, designed to guide participants from theory to tasting:
One detail highlights the organization's care: the truffle is harvested and served fresh, specifically for the exact number of booked participants, guaranteeing a high-quality experience.
Perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Ombrone valley, Campagnatico is a medieval village with its charm intact, once a fiefdom of the Aldobrandeschi family and mentioned by Dante in the Purgatorio. Its walls, the Aldobrandeschi fortress, and frescoed churches provide the backdrop for a genuine gastronomic tradition, featuring cured meats, cheeses, Maremma tortelli, and wild boar. In this context, the truffle finds its natural celebration, a gift from the woods surrounding the town.
More than just a mass-market food festival, the Maremma Truffle Festival is an intimate and well-curated event, ideal for those who want to discover the true flavors of Tuscany away from the most crowded tourist circuits. It is the perfect opportunity to combine a visit to the village, a walk through the Maremma hills, and an evening of fine dining dedicated to one of the treasures of the Grosseto land.
The 2026 Maremma Truffle Festival will be held on Sunday, June 21 in Campagnatico, organized by the Pro Loco. The program includes a 5:00 PM technical seminar at the Municipal Theatre, a 6:00 PM practical truffle hunting demonstration with trained dogs, and an 8:00 PM communal dinner with a menu dedicated to the Tuber Aestivum.
The dinner requires mandatory booking, to be made by June 17 via WhatsApp at +39 351 337 5436. The truffle is harvested and served fresh specifically for the exact number of booked participants.
Campagnatico can be reached by car via the SS223 Grosseto-Siena road, about 25 km from Grosseto. The nearest train station is in Grosseto, on the Tyrrhenian line, from where you can continue by car or local bus.
The communal dinner requires mandatory booking. Contribution: adults 35 euros, children under 10 years 20 euros, alternative menu without truffle 20 euros. Bookings can be made via WhatsApp at +39 351 337 5436 by June 17, 2026.
We recommend combining your participation in the festival with a visit to the medieval historic center of Campagnatico and its monuments.
