The Maremma Festival is one of the most anticipated events in July in the village of Borgo San Martino, located just a few kilometers from the center of Cerveteri, in the province of Rome. For over a decade, the event has celebrated the farming and pastoral culture of the Lazio Maremma, a territory straddling Lazio and Tuscany where the figure of the buttero—the mounted herdsman—remains a symbol of an ancient identity. For three days, the village transforms into a vast open-air space filled with horses, herds, authentic flavors, and evening performances.

Night-time Equestrian Shows

The heart of the festival lies in the magnificent night-time equestrian shows: carousels, performances by butteri, and the presence of the iconic Maremma cattle with their long horns. The evenings revolve around the riders' skill in handling the herds, creating a show that blends talent, tradition, and strong emotional impact. Folk groups, parades, and musical performances keep the audience entertained until late into the night.

Flavors, Traditions, and Crafts

Beyond the shows, the Maremma Festival is a major gastronomic occasion. The 2026 Edition and the Sports Memorial

The 2026 edition maintains the proven formula of evening equestrian shows, food stalls, and the grand closing fireworks display. This year's novelty is a Sports Memorial dedicated to a figure linked to the world of sports and the local community: a competition open to amateurs, with various categories (60, 70, 80, 90, 100, and 110+ classes) and voluntary entry fees, reinforcing the inclusive and charitable nature of the event.

Organized by the Asd Cavalieri del Borgo with the patronage of the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Cerveteri and the Lazio Region, the Maremma Festival has become a staple of the summer calendar on Rome's northern coast.
