About Far West Fest

Far West Fest is a decentralized festival bringing theater, music, contemporary circus, cinema, stand-up comedy, and creative workshops to the north-west neighborhoods of Rome. Curated by Zip Zone APS across Quartaccio, Primavalle, and Montespaccato in the XIII and XIV Municipalities, it offers an entirely free program that transforms squares, parks, libraries, and community centers into stages open to everyone, with a special focus on youth, families, and local community engagement.

A festival traveling through Rome's suburbs

Far West Fest – Culture in motion, Community in growth is a decentralized festival taking place in the north-west quadrant of the Municipality of Rome, in the Lazio Region, specifically within the neighborhoods of Quartaccio, Primavalle (Municipality XIV), and Montespaccato (Municipality XIII). The core idea is simple yet ambitious: instead of asking residents to travel to the historic center for a show, the festival brings culture to their doorstep, utilizing spaces people already frequent daily—a square, a park, a neighborhood garden, or the local library.

The project is curated by the association Zip Zone APS, which has been active for years in so-called "positive intersection zones." It was a winner of the Artes et Iubilaeum – 2025 public call promoted by Rome Capital – Department of Culture, with the support of the European Union (Next Generation EU) and the collaboration of Periferiacapitale (Fondazione Charlemagne) and SIAE.

A multidisciplinary program

The Far West Fest lineup is not limited to a single art form: over several months, it features theater, live music, contemporary circus, cinema, stand-up comedy, and creative workshops designed for both adults and children. Alongside evening performances, there are activities that directly involve the public: rap writing and music production workshops, animated readings for children, silent discos, street games, and virtual reality experiences.

  • Authorial Theater — performances by prominent national stage actors
  • Music — concerts, DJ sets, and projects blending Mediterranean and African repertoires
  • Contemporary Circus — circus cabaret and juggling for families
  • Cinema — thematic film forums and inclusive screenings in community centers
  • Workshops — rap, music, reading, and recreational activities for children and teenagers

Festival locations

Events are distributed across a network of local spaces. In Quartaccio, the heart of the festival is the outdoor area between Via Andersen and Via Flaubert, where the main stage is set up. In Primavalle, events are held at Parco Dominique Green on Via S. Igino Papa 89, a green space that lends itself to concerts and outdoor evenings during the summer. In Montespaccato, the festival utilizes the Centro ARGO on Via Bondi, the Biblioteca Cornelia, and the Giardino Vincenzo Paparelli.

Free and accessible culture

One of the festival's hallmarks is that it is completely free: all events have open admission, with no tickets or membership cards required. This choice aligns with the project's mission to reduce economic and symbolic barriers to cultural access in neighborhoods historically underserved by the Capital's artistic offerings. Several initiatives are designed with inclusivity in mind, paying special attention to people with sensory disabilities and families with young children.

Why it's worth visiting

Far West Fest is an opportunity to discover a side of Rome beyond the postcards: not the Forums or Trastevere, but the residential districts built in the 20th century to the west of the city, with their popular architecture, local markets, and an associative vitality often invisible to tourist circuits. Attendees will find a local audience, an informal atmosphere, and high-quality shows that would be paid events elsewhere. For the curious visitor, it is an authentic way to connect with the daily life of Roman neighborhoods, just a few kilometers from the Vatican but in a completely different urban dimension.

Far West Fest — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Far West Fest has not yet been officially announced. The inaugural edition, held in 2025 thanks to the Artes et Iubilaeum Public Call by Rome Capital, concluded on December 13th, and no calendar is currently available for the following year.

2026 edition awaiting confirmation

As of today, no official calendar has been published for a 2026 edition of Far West Fest. The 2025 festival was created within the framework of a specific call by Rome Capital linked to the Jubilee year, and its potential continuation depends on the resources that the association Zip Zone APS will be able to secure for the Quartaccio, Primavalle, and Montespaccato neighborhoods.

In the meantime, the association remains active in the XIII and XIV Municipalities of Rome with workshops and local cultural initiatives. We will update this page as soon as dates and programs are released.
