The most beloved granfondo in the Dolomites

The Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel is Italy's most renowned and sought-after granfondo cycling race, an event that every first Sunday of July transforms Alta Badia, in the municipality of Corvara in Badia (province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige), into the world capital of amateur cycling. Established in 1987, the event attracts approximately 8,000 cyclists selected by lottery from tens of thousands of applicants, with participants from nearly eighty different nations.

Three routes across legendary passes

The race starts in La Villa and finishes in Corvara, both in Alta Badia, offering three routes that traverse some of the most mythical mountain passes in the Dolomites:

• Sellaronda — approx. 55 km and 1,780 meters of elevation gain, covering the Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella, and Gardena passes;
• Medio Route — approx. 106 km and 3,130 meters of elevation gain;
• Maratona — the full route of approx. 138 km and over 4,230 meters of elevation gain, adding the climbs of Passo Giau, Falzarego, and Valparola.

For the entire day, the passes are closed to motorized traffic: a unique opportunity to cycle in total safety amidst the peaks of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Much more than a race

Each edition of the Maratona is accompanied by a theme that adds deeper meaning to the race, featuring cultural, social, and charitable initiatives. The event combines a passion for cycling with environmental awareness—using electric support vehicles and promoting increasing sustainability—while celebrating the Ladin culture of the Dolomite valleys.

A week of events in Alta Badia

Race Sunday is the culmination of an entire week of activities. In the preceding days, the Maratona Village in San Leonardo di Badia comes to life (featuring an exhibition area, bike testing, and race pack collection), alongside guided rides like the Sunrise Coffee Ride and the Champion's Ride, film screenings, cooking classes, and the Maratona for Kids dedicated to the little ones in the Corvara finish area.

The Ladin heart of Alta Badia

For the municipality of Corvara in Badia and the entire Val Badia, the Maratona is the most important summer event: a day when entire villages come alive with sport, cheering crowds along the roads, local gastronomy, and Ladin traditions, all against the backdrop of the Sassongher peaks and the Sella group. It is an experience that unites the competitive spirit of top granfondo riders with the pleasure of cycling in one of the most spectacular natural settings in Europe.
