The night snow run in Val Fiscalina, at the foot of the Tre Cime
The Drei Zinnen Winter Night Run is a night-time snow running race held in Sesto (Sexten), in the Sesto Dolomites area, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Launched in 2026 as a new winter highlight, the event takes runners along the stunning Val Fiscalina (Fischleintal), one of the most famous valleys in Alta Pusteria, dominated by the unmistakable silhouette of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The race starts near Hotel Waldheim, in the hamlet of Moso, where the 13-kilometer course unfolds with a total elevation gain of approximately 238 meters. The route follows the perfectly groomed cross-country track that gently climbs up Val Fiscalina to Rifugio Fondovalle, before returning to Sesto. Running at night, with only the light of mandatory headlamps and the glow of the stars reflected on the snow, offers a unique atmosphere, suspended between sport and contemplation of the Dolomite landscape.
The organizers have chosen to maintain an intimate and exclusive character, limiting the number of participants to 200 athletes to preserve the natural experience within the Tre Cime Nature Park. Alongside the competitive category (for those 18 and over, with a sports license), there is also a "Just for Fun" category dedicated to enthusiasts and amateur runners who want to experience the thrill of the race without the pressure of the clock. Crampons and poles are prohibited, while a headlamp is mandatory for all.
The race is organized by the ALV Sextner Dolomiten committee, the same team that has managed the famous Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run for nearly thirty years—the summer high-altitude race that draws thousands of enthusiasts to the Sesto Dolomites every September. The Winter Night Run represents the natural winter extension of this tradition, bringing mountain running to life in a fresh and spectacular way.
Set in one of the most characteristic villages in South Tyrol, the event is also an opportunity to discover Sesto and Alta Pusteria during the cold season: ski slopes, cross-country trails, mountain huts, and views of the peaks that have made the Dolomites world-famous. The event helps promote sports and winter tourism in the municipality, combining competition with respect for the alpine environment.
The Drei Zinnen Winter Night Run debuted on February 27, 2026, with a start time of 6:00 PM near Hotel Waldheim, in Val Fiscalina, Sesto. On the 13 km groomed cross-country track, with an elevation gain of 238 meters up to Rifugio Fondovalle and back, athletes from over ten nations competed in ideal snow and temperature conditions.
In the men's category, Samuel Demetz (Team Salomon) triumphed with a time of 40:25, ahead of the German Marcel Krieghoff (SC Impuls Erfurt, 43:04) and Lukas Engl (SSV Bruneck, 43:06). Among the women, Lena Zingerle (AC 2000 Toblach) succeeded with 53:26, followed by Lisa Thaler (Lauffreunde Sarntal, 54:08) and Katia Engl (Skinfit, 55:47). All finishers received the official event medal.
Sesto/Sexten can be reached by car from the A22 motorway (Bressanone exit), continuing along the Pusteria Valley towards Alta Pusteria. By train, the reference station is San Candido/Innichen, which is connected to Sesto by local bus. The start is near Hotel Waldheim, in the hamlet of Moso.
Online registration via the official website, with tiered pricing: €30 for the first 50 entrants, €35 for the 51st to 100th, and €40 for the following. Limited to 200 participants. Headlamp mandatory; crampons and poles prohibited.
