A food and wine walking tour through the flavors of Abruzzo in Francavilla al Mare
The Magnalonga has become one of the most anticipated summer events in Francavilla al Mare, a charming town in the province of Chieti overlooking the Adriatic Sea in Abruzzo. It is a non-competitive food and wine walking tour: no races or stopwatches, just the pleasure of a leisurely stroll, stopping along the way to savor local products in good company. The format, popular throughout Italy under the name "magnalonga," finds a unique expression here, deeply rooted in the Frentano identity and the flavors of the Abruzzo coast.
The meeting point and start is the Convento Michetti, a landmark of Francavilla al Mare. Purchased in 1885 by the painter Francesco Paolo Michetti as his home and studio, it hosted prominent figures of Italian culture, including Gabriele d'Annunzio. From this historic and cultural hub, the Circuito Piane beginsโa route that winds through panoramic views, nature, and countryside, offering participants a slow and authentic way to discover the territory.
The route is punctuated by seven stops, each dedicated to tasting local specialties paired with Abruzzo wines. The event's success is made possible by numerous local producers who provide the very best of their craft:
The atmosphere is made even more festive by live folk music that accompanies the walk, perfectly in tune with the convivial spirit of the event.
To ensure the quality of the experience and the success of the tastings, participation is limited to a maximum of 250 people. This intimate and carefully curated character distinguishes the Francavilla Magnalonga from large mass events: here, the pace is set by walking together, toasting with friends, and discovering the genuine flavors of Abruzzo.
The Magnalonga is part of the rich summer calendar of the Municipality of Francavilla al Mare, which enlivens the season every year with concerts, festivals, and cultural events along the coast. For those who want to experience the authentic Abruzzo, far from clichรฉs and close to its gastronomic traditions, this walk is an ideal opportunity to combine good food, fine wine, nature, and conviviality.
For the 2026 edition, the Magnalonga returns to Francavilla al Mare on August 8 and 9. The start is set for the early afternoon from the Convento Michetti, the historic and cultural heart of the town, from which the scenic Circuito Piane unfolds.
The proven formula is confirmed: seven tasting stops featuring local specialties and Abruzzo wines, including those from Cantina Frentana, with live folk music accompanying the walk. The event is limited to a maximum of 250 participants, so booking is essential.
Departure from the Convento Michetti in the early afternoon and a route along the Circuito Piane marked by seven tasting stops (local specialties and Abruzzo wines), with live folk music along the way.
