A day of art, music, and words in the heart of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines
The MAF - Marradi Art Festival is a vibrant cultural event that brings Marradi to life, a charming village in the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines in the Province of Florence, nestled in the heart of the Mugello region, in Tuscany. Established in 2025, the MAF is an open-air festival: for one full day, the streets, squares, courtyards, and hidden corners of the historic center are transformed into stages, filled with music, art, and culture. The second edition takes place on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
From the early morning, the town comes alive with roaming brass bands, while art exhibitions and local street food stalls line the streets. The festival is designed as an immersive journey: visitors can wander from one square to another, discovering concerts, shows, readings, and installations in a constant dialogue between the audience, the artists, and the village itself. The heart of the event is the Teatro degli Animosi, the historic local theater, complemented by Piazza Scalelle and the various outdoor spaces in the center.
While the first edition chose music as its guiding thread, the second edition of the MAF focuses on writing and wordsโthe ones that endure, that ignite, and that console. Books, theater, music, and visual arts intertwine in a single, grand narrative. The program includes book presentations with nationally renowned authors, two concerts blending music and literature, theatrical performances with notable actors, as well as itinerant exhibitions set up in the town's lesser-known corners and a gastronomic selection rooted in local traditions.
The MAF is an event designed for all ages. Alongside cultural appointments for adults, there is a dedicated children's area with activities and workshops, making the day perfect for families. Admission is free, in keeping with the event's popular and inclusive spirit.
Marradi is a village with a strong cultural identity, linked in particular to the poet Dino Campana and the famous Autumn Chestnut Festival. With the MAF, the Municipality of Marradi and the MarradiInventa association, in collaboration with the Unione Montana dei Comuni del Mugello, have sought to give the town a new, broader summer event capable of showcasing the local heritage and bringing art and culture into the streets of the historic center.
