The historic late-August fair in the heart of Vicchio, Mugello
Fiera Calda is one of the oldest and most beloved events in the Mugello region. It takes place in Vicchio, in the province of Florence, Tuscany, bringing the historic center to life during the last few days of August. Its origins date back about two centuries: the 1832 'Atlas of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany' by Attilio Zuccagni Orlandini already listed it among the annual fairs and markets of Mugello, noting: ยซthe last Wednesday of August in Vicchio, Livestock and various manufactures fairยป. Since then, the fair has always started on the last Wednesday of August and concluded the following Sunday, a summer timing to which it owes its curious and affectionate name.
The heart of Fiera Calda is the historic center of Vicchio, the birthplace of Giotto and Beato Angelico. Events are spread across the most picturesque squares and spaces of the village:
The opening day is reserved for the historic Livestock Fair, held at the large meadow in the Ponte a Vicchio area, where farmers and breeders once arrived from all over the Val di Sieve.
Today, Fiera Calda blends tradition and innovation with a rich calendar of initiatives designed for all ages:
Promoted by the Municipality of Vicchio and the Pro Loco of Vicchio, with the support of the Tuscany Region Council and the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Florence and the Mountain Union of Mugello Municipalities, Fiera Calda is much more than a market: it is the moment when the entire community gathers to celebrate its rural and artisanal identity. For those visiting Tuscany off the beaten path, it is the perfect opportunity to discover the authenticity of Mugello and the warmth of a village that carries the memory of its most illustrious sons in its name.
The 2026 edition of Fiera Calda is scheduled in Vicchio from August 27 to 30, following the historic timing of the last Wednesday of August. The event confirms itself as one of the most heartfelt appointments in the Mugello summer calendar, with the historic center entirely dedicated to the festival: live music and DJ sets, street food and local specialties, the artisan and local produce market, workshops for children, and artistic craft exhibitions.
The detailed program, with daily schedules and events, is usually published by the Municipality of Vicchio and the Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event. It is recommended to check the official channels for the complete calendar of concerts and initiatives.
