About Madonna del Carmine

The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the most cherished summer event in Vico del Gargano, in the heart of the Gargano region of Puglia. Every July, this village in the province of Foggia experiences intense days of faith and tradition: the novena, the solemn procession on July 16th, the brass band concerts in Piazza Carmine, and the pyrotechnic finale bring together locals, visitors, and tourists in a blend of devotion and popular culture. The 2026 edition took place from July 5th to 18th and concluded with the return of the restored sacred icon and a concert by Carlo Marrale and Silvia Mezzanotte in Piazza Croci.

The most beloved festival in Vico del Gargano

Every July, the village of Vico del Gargano, nestled between the sea and the Umbra Forest in the province of Foggia, gathers around the Madonna del Carmine, one of the deepest devotions of the Gargano community. The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is much more than a religious anniversary: it is a moment of memory, identity, and belonging that unites entire generations and draws emigrants, relatives, and tourists from all over Puglia back to the town.

The return of the restored sacred icon

The 2026 edition held special significance. On Sunday, July 5th, the sacred icon of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, having undergone a delicate restoration, returned to the Church of the Carmine. Following the Holy Rosary and the Eucharistic Celebration, a candlelight procession accompanied the image for its solemn enthronement. It was a deeply moving moment for the Confraternity of the Discalced Carmelites, the guardians of the tradition alongside the Festival Committee.

Novena and solemn days

From July 7th to 15th, the community prepared with the novena, marked by the Holy Rosary, the Novena prayers, and Holy Mass. The heart of the festival is July 16th, the day of the liturgical feast: in 2026, the day began with morning Masses and culminated at 8:00 PM in the grand procession that carried the Sacred Icon through the streets of the historic center, amidst illuminations and the participation of the entire town.

Music, bands, and entertainment

The secular program for July 16th and 17th, 2026, was entrusted to the "F. Fenaroli" Historic Grand Concert Band of Lanciano, conducted by Maestro Rocco Eletto, with evening concerts in Piazza Carmine, accompanied by the "Nardini" Band of Vico del Gargano. On the evening of July 18th, in Piazza Croci, the grand musical show featured Carlo Marrale and Silvia Mezzanotte, historic voices of Matia Bazar, in a concert dedicated to the hits that defined Italian music.

A village between sea and forest

The festival is also the perfect opportunity to discover Vico del Gargano, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, with its medieval alleys, the famous Alley of the Kiss, and the unique landscape of the Gargano National Park. Between the sacred and the secular, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel tells the authentic story of this corner of Puglia, where devotion intertwines with conviviality, local gastronomy, and village festivities.
