Four days of devotion, music, and gastronomy in San Carlo Canavese
The Madonna d'Oropa Patronal Feast is the signature event of San Carlo Canavese, a town in the Province of Turin nestled within the Vaude region of Piedmont. Every year, at the end of summer, the entire community unites in devotion to the Madonna d'Oropa, a figure dear to Piedmontese religious tradition, creating four days of festivities that weave together faith, music, sport, and gastronomy.
The beating heart of the festival is the Strada Vauda multi-purpose center, which hosts the food stands and the main stage, while religious ceremonies take place in the parish church of San Carlo Borromeo. The event is managed by the 'Li Bogianen a Bogio' Pro Loco, an association that has been enlivening the town's community life for years under the patronage of the Municipality.
The guiding thread of the feast remains religious: the solemn mass and procession in honor of the Madonna d'Oropa is the most heartfelt moment, accompanied by the San Carlo Canavese Philharmonic. Around this devotional core, a popular program unfolds, attracting residents and visitors from the neighboring towns of the Ciriacese and Lower Canavese areas.
The musical program has always been a highlight of the festival, with themed evenings held under the marquee:
The sporting dimension is also present with the return of the End-of-Summer Stracittadina, the classic fun run that winds through the town streets. The food stand offers dishes from the Canavese and Piedmontese culinary tradition, while children can enjoy the funfair and entertainment activities. The festival concludes with the traditional fireworks display, the most anticipated moment that lights up the sky over San Carlo Canavese to bid farewell to summer.
More than just a local festival, the Madonna d'Oropa Patronal Feast is the moment when San Carlo Canavese rediscovers its identity: a successful balance between the solemnity of devotion and the joy of a town celebration, capable of engaging all generations in an atmosphere of authentic Piedmontese conviviality.
