Evening tours, live music, and thousands of candles in the Gardens of the Reggia di Venaria
When summer arrives, the Reggia di Venaria — the grand Savoy residence on the outskirts of Turin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site — changes its face and opens up to the night. With Summer Evenings at the Reggia, the monumental complex of Venaria Reale, in the Metropolitan City of Turin (Piedmont), extends its opening hours until 11 PM every Friday and Saturday, offering one of the most evocative experiences of the Piedmontese summer: visiting the Baroque rooms and strolling through the Gardens after the sun has set.
With an evening ticket, you can access the Piano Nobile and admire the spectacular Great Gallery, the Hall of Diana, the Chapel of Saint Hubert, and the other magnificent halls of the complex, along with the current exhibitions. It is a different and more intimate way to discover the residence, away from the daytime crowds, with the evening light illuminating the stuccos and marbles of the Juvarrian Baroque.
The true heart of the event, however, is the immense Gardens of the Reggia. At twilight, they are illuminated by the light of thousands of candles and become a large open-air stage: live music, roving performances, and shows of various genres animate the Central Canal, the Rose Garden, the Potager Royal, and the Cascina Medici del Vascello. From flamenco to jazz, from swing to tango, from Afro-beat to traditional folk and Latin American music: every evening offers different atmospheres, accompanied by sunset aperitifs and moments of relaxation among the flowerbeds.
More than just an evening opening, Summer Evenings is a slow and refined festival: a sunset aperitif, a concert among the hedges, candles being lit one by one, and a light finale at the Stag Fountain. For those visiting Turin and Piedmont in summer, it is the ideal appointment to combine great historical heritage, nature, and live entertainment in a single evening.
