The ancient village of Luco dei Marsi comes alive with flowers, art, music, and Marsican flavors

Luco in Fiore is one of the most deeply rooted and anticipated summer events in Luco dei Marsi, a town in the Fucino area in the province of L'Aquila, in the heart of the Abruzzo Marsica region. Every August, the ancient village transforms into a widespread garden: flowers, artistic installations, music, and the aromas of Marsican cuisine animate the arches, squares, and alleys nestled within the walls of the historic center, from the Borghetto district to the Campane district.
Born in the early 2000s and reaching its twenty-second edition in August 2024, the festival is organized by Arci Luco with the patronage of the Municipality of Luco dei Marsi and has established itself over the years as a true compendium of art, culture, music, and territory. The event is part of the broader summer program of the Vacanze Luchesi, but it retains its own identity and independent edition numbering.
The food and wine trail is one of its distinctive features: along the village streets, there are numerous stands and open cellars offering tastings of typical Marsican products.
The program alternates live concerts, DJ sets, and itinerant shows with cultural and literary spaces such as the Cortile delle Parole danzanti (Courtyard of Dancing Words), featuring readings and meetings also hosted in the archaeological area of Anxa-Angitia. The most characteristic element remains the beauty contest dedicated to flowers: gardens, balconies, and staircases of the town are decorated and put into competition, with the most beautiful ones photographed in an exhibition and awarded during the festival. There is no shortage of charity initiatives, craft workshops, and activities for children, making Luco in Fiore an event for all generations.
Set among the stones of the village and just a stone's throw from the ancient city of Anxa-Angitia, the event is also an opportunity to discover the identity of the Fucino and Marsica regions: an inland Abruzzo made of community, peasant traditions, and landscapes between the reclaimed plain and the surrounding mountains. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: it is recommended to check the social channels of Arci Luco and the Municipality of Luco dei Marsi for the updated program.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of Luco in Fiore have not yet been released. Based on previous editions, the festival is expected to take place in August in the historic village of Luco dei Marsi, with the food and wine trail among open cellars, concerts and DJ sets, the beauty contest dedicated to flowered balconies and gardens, and literary and artistic spaces. For updated dates and line-up, please refer to the official channels of Arci Luco and the Municipality of Luco dei Marsi.
Luco dei Marsi can be reached by car from the A25 Rome-Pescara motorway, taking the Avezzano exit and continuing towards the Fucino plain. The reference railway station is Avezzano, on the Rome-Pescara-Sulmona line, from which the town is just a few kilometers away.
The event traditionally takes place in August in the historic village, between the Borghetto and Campane districts. Stands and cellars generally open in the evening, from 7 PM.
Access to the festival streets is free; food and wine tastings at stands and cellars are for a fee.
