Music, wine, and local specialties through the alleys of the village of Santa Jona
SuONO FUORI is one of the most anticipated events in the autumn calendar of Ovindoli, in the province of L'Aquila, in the heart of the Abruzzo mountains. Every September, the small hamlet of Santa Jona opens its alleys to a food and wine walk that weaves together tastings, local products, and live music, transforming the village into an open-air sensory journey.
Santa Jona is an ancient village located within the Sirente Velino Regional Natural Park, which has been restored in recent years thanks to the efforts of the local community. Its small squares, medieval tower, and views overlooking Celano and the Fucino plain provide the backdrop for an event designed to promote off-season mountain tourism and bring life back to the stones of the historic center. Walking through the alleys during SuONO FUORI means discovering a town that tells its story through its flavors and music.
The heart of the event is the gourmet itinerary curated by the sommeliers of Assomarso (Marsicana Sommelier Association), who guide the public in tasting labels from the main Abruzzo wineries. Over the years, producers such as Ulisse, Pietrantonj, Pasetti, Buccicatino, Castelsimoni, Vigna di More, and Cantina del Fucino have participated. Accompanying the wine glasses are local specialties: arrosticini, sausages, fried pizzas, ferratelle, and products from the farmers and artisans of the Marsica region.
The event's soundtrack is provided by roving musicians and local bands that enliven the village streets. Past editions have featured street performers, acoustic trios, saxophonists, and marching bands, creating an intimate and festive atmosphere that spreads from square to square until evening.
Over the years, SuONO FUORI has enriched its program with cultural moments: contemporary art exhibitions set up in the medieval tower, theatrical performances, and, in recent editions, thematic conferences dedicated to the world of wine and its contemporary challenges. It is a way to combine the pleasure of dining with reflection on the future of the wine sector.
Promoted by the Pro Loco of Santa Jona with the patronage of the Municipality of Ovindoli and the Sirente Velino Regional Park, the event has established itself as the traditional closing of the Ovindoli summer. Reaching its eleventh edition in 2025, SuONO FUORI confirms the village's vocation for combining gastronomy, culture, and landscape into a single, evocative journey.
The SuONO FUORI food and wine walk returns in September 2026 to the village of Santa Jona, a hamlet of Ovindoli (AQ). Once again, the itinerary through the alleys will offer tastings of Abruzzo wines, gastronomic specialties from the Marsica territory, and live music, in a route curated by the Santa Jona Pro Loco with the sommeliers of Assomarso.
The complete program for the 2026 edition, including musical artists, guest wineries, and any cultural moments, will be communicated by the organizers closer to the event via the channels of the Municipality of Ovindoli and the Pro Loco.
Ovindoli can be reached by car from the A25 Rome-Pescara motorway, taking the Aielli-Celano exit and continuing towards the Altopiano delle Rocche. The hamlet of Santa Jona is located a short distance from the center of Ovindoli.
The event traditionally takes place in September, during the afternoon and evening (starting from approximately 6:30 PM).
