"Per le vie del Borgo" — Scurcola, the Village of Flavors is the food and wine event that brings the historic center of Scurcola Marsicana to life during the Christmas season. Located in the heart of the Abruzzo region, this town in the Marsica area hosts an initiative organized by the Nuova Pro Loco APS of Scurcola Marsicana in collaboration with the local municipality. It turns the alleys and small squares of the ancient village into a true gourmet trail, where residents and visitors can discover charming corners and hidden views of the town.
The heart of the event is a walking route that winds through the historic center. Along the path, there are numerous tasting stops—about twenty-five in the last edition—set up with stands, sampling points, and spaces dedicated to local products. You can enjoy everything from classic bruschetta to the delicacies of Marsican cuisine, featuring both traditional dishes and creative reinterpretations, all paired with local wines. The number of participating wineries has grown with each edition, doubling compared to previous years.
The event highlights the heritage of the village of Scurcola Marsicana, which is dominated by the ruins of the Orsini-Colonna castle and linked to the memory of the historic Battle of Tagliacozzo in 1268. During the holiday season, the town also lights up with other Christmas events, such as the Presepi nel Borgo (Nativity Scenes in the Village), creating an ideal setting for a stroll among lights, traditions, and flavors. The generosity of the residents, who open their private rooms and cellars to the public, is an integral part of the formula that has ensured the event's success.
Created to revitalize the historic center and strengthen the community's bond with its territory, the event has become a highly anticipated appointment in the Marsica area, attracting visitors not only from Abruzzo but also from outside the region. Thanks to increasing participation and the enthusiasm of the population, "Per le vie del Borgo" has established itself as one of the food, wine, and tourism highlights of the winter calendar in Scurcola Marsicana.
At the moment, the Nuova Pro Loco APS of Scurcola Marsicana has not yet released the official dates for the 2026 edition of "Per le vie del Borgo". Given the usual timing of the event, it is expected to take place during the Christmas season, in late December, featuring the customary food and wine trail through the streets of the historic center. The detailed program, including tasting stops and traditional Marsican products, will be published closer to the event.
The event takes place in the historic center of Scurcola Marsicana (AQ), along the streets and alleys of the ancient village.
Scurcola Marsicana is located in western Marsica, in the province of L'Aquila. It can be reached via the A25 Torano-Pescara motorway (exit at Aielli-Celano or Cocullo depending on your direction) and the state road network of the Fucino plain. The reference railway station is on the Rome-Pescara line.
The event is usually held during the Christmas season, at the end of December. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: we recommend following the channels of the Nuova Pro Loco APS of Scurcola Marsicana for updates.
