A festival dedicated to a typical dish of Lucca
The Lucchese Rovellina Festival takes place in Sant'Angelo in Campo, a village in the municipality of Lucca, in the heart of the Lucca plains in Tuscany. It is the first and only gastronomic event entirely dedicated to the rovellina, a traditional specialty of Lucca's cuisine that deserves to be rediscovered and celebrated. The festival was launched in 2025 by the Misericordia di Lucca and immediately won over the public, returning again in 2026.
What is the Lucchese rovellina
Rovelline are slices of red meat that are breaded and fried, then simmered in a savory tomato sauce enriched with capers and other spices. It is a humble, honest dish from the Lucchese peasant tradition, capable of capturing the entire character of local cuisine in just a few ingredients. During the festival, rovelline are the main stars, but the menu also offers many other specialties.

The event is organized by the Misericordia di Lucca, a historic brotherhood dedicated to assistance and solidarity in the area, with the patronage of the City of Lucca. All proceeds support the Misericordia's social projects: attending the festival means enjoying an excellent dinner while contributing to a good cause for the Lucchese community.
Rovellina Festival — edition 2026
For the 2026 edition, the Lucchese Rovellina Festival offers three evenings in Sant'Angelo in Campo, a village of Lucca, at the skating rink. The absolute stars remain the rovelline, accompanied by rosticciana, mixed grilled meat, vegetables, and vegetarian dishes, with takeaway service available. Every evening, the atmosphere is enlivened by music and a different DJ set. The event, with free entry, is organized by the Misericordia di Lucca for charity.

How to get there
By car, Sant'Angelo in Campo is easily reached from Lucca in a few minutes; Lucca Est motorway exit (A11 Firenze-Mare). By train, arrive at Lucca station and then take local transport to the village.
Hours
Food stalls open from 7:00 PM. The festival takes place in the evening.

Free entry; you pay at the counter for what you consume at the food stalls. Takeaway service is available.
