A narrated, travelling Nativity scene in the heart of Aragona, featuring ancient crafts and Sicilian traditions.
In the heart of Aragona, a town in the province of Agrigento, Sicily, the Christmas season is marked by one of the area's most cherished traditions: the "Tutti insieme sotto lo stesso cielo" Living Nativity. The event takes place in the evocative setting of Palazzo Principe Naselli, an elegant 18th-century building that overlooks the central Piazza Umberto I, serving as the focal point for the Nativity story told to visitors.
The Aragona event is not a static display, but a narrated, travelling nativity: a journey through time and memory where performers in period costumes become actors in the sacred scene. Blacksmiths, artisans, and farmers animate various settings with ancient crafts and scenes of daily life from yesteryear. Accompanied by narration and Christmas carols, the public is immersed in the atmosphere of ancient Palestine, reinterpreted here through typical Sicilian traditions.
The performance is curated by the Vincenzian Volunteer Groups Association and is inspired by the principles of charity and hospitality of Saint Vincent de Paul. The nativity involves many families and young people from the community in a collective project that weaves together faith, memory, and the town's identity. During the evenings, there are tastings of local products, from boiled chickpeas to traditional sweets, along with entertainment designed for children.
The Living Nativity at Palazzo Naselli is the heart of a wider circuit that earns Aragona the title of "city of nativity scenes." Throughout the historic center, nativity scenes are set up in churches and neighborhoods: the Chiesa della Provvidenza, with its mining-inspired and Pirandellian settings; the Chiesa Madre with its 18th-century papier-mรขchรฉ statues; and various nativity scenes spread across staircases, squares, and courtyards. It is a widespread itinerary that accompanies visitors throughout the holiday period until Epiphany.
Visiting the Aragona Living Nativity means discovering one of the most authentic expressions of Christmas in the Agrigento area, where the religious dimension blends with the warmth of the community and Sicilian folk traditions.
For the 2025/2026 Christmas holidays, the Palazzo Principe Naselli in Aragona once again hosts the "Tutti insieme sotto lo stesso cielo" Living Nativity. The announced dates are December 26, 2025, and January 3 and 6, 2026. As per tradition, performers in period costumes will bring ancient crafts and scenes of daily life to life, accompanied by narration, Christmas carols, and tastings of local products. The detailed program with the times for each evening will be communicated by the organization via social media channels closer to the event.
