Christmas in the Monti Dauni: living scenes and authentic flavors
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Monti Dauni, at the northwestern tip of Puglia, the small village of Motta Montecorvino (Foggia province) celebrates the Christmas season with one of the most heartfelt events in the Daunian hinterland: the Living Nativity and Christmas Festival. For one evening, the rustic streets of the historic center fill with actors, lights, fires, and aromas, turning the entire village into a large open-air nativity scene.
The entrance is set up in Largo Cavour, marking the start of a route that winds through the village's stone alleys. Along the way, visitors encounter Nativity scenes and tableaux of daily life that evoke ancient crafts and traditional costumes: a journey through history, art, and popular devotion that brings the atmosphere of the Monti Dauni farming tradition back to life.
The nativity route is accompanied by a roving food and wine festival, the delicious heart of the event. As you walk among the scenes, you can savor traditional dishes of local Motta cuisine, homemade products, and regional specialties, prepared by volunteers along the streets of the center. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the genuine flavors of an authentic and still little-known corner of Puglia.
With its few inhabitants, Motta Montecorvino preserves the most intimate and authentic soul of Daunia: a maze of narrow streets, ancient portals, and panoramic views of the Apennine ridges that mark the border with Campania and Molise. The event, organized by the local Pro Loco with the involvement of the Associazione Passio Christi (the same group that brings the nativity scene to life in winter and the famous Passion play in spring), is a powerful community moment that unites local families and attracts visitors from neighboring Monti Dauni villages.
The 2026 edition of the Living Nativity and Christmas Festival in Motta Montecorvino has not yet been officially announced. In recent editions, the event has taken place during the Christmas period, with the living nativity route and the roving food festival winding through the alleys of the historic center, with the entrance at Largo Cavour. The detailed 2026 program will be communicated by the Pro Loco of Motta Montecorvino in the weeks leading up to the event.
