Three days on the seafront celebrating the cantaloupe melon, an ultra-early excellence of the Licata land

The Licata Cantaloupe Melon Festival was created to pay homage to what is now considered one of the agricultural symbols of the territory: the Licata cantaloupe melon, a netted fruit with an oval shape and juicy yellow-orange pulp. Grown in the countryside around Licata, in the province of Agrigento, and hand-picked, this melon is famous for its ultra-early ripening: it is in fact among the first to appear on European markets, anticipating the summer season and representing a recognized excellence of Sicily.
The heart of the festival is the Food Village set up along the city's coastline, on Via Principe di Napoli. For three days, the Licata seafront transforms into a culinary journey where the cantaloupe melon is the absolute protagonist, featured in both sweet and savory preparations. Visitors can participate in free tastings, discover traditional recipes, and follow show cooking sessions led by local chefs who reinterpret the fruit in original dishes.
In addition to the food and wine offerings, the event features live music, moments of folklore, photo exhibitions, and a rich evening entertainment program. Special attention is reserved for the little ones with the "Children's Seafront" area, a space dedicated to games and workshops managed by local associations. The atmosphere, between the scent of the sea and freshly cut melon, makes the festival an event suitable for the whole family.
The festival is also an opportunity to promote a product that aims for Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) recognition: a promotional committee has been established in Licata to protect and promote the local cantaloupe melon, a story of agricultural quality that the city wants to make known far beyond the borders of Sicily.
Overlooking the Strait of Sicily, Licata is a lively town in the province of Agrigento, rich in history, beaches, and maritime tradition. Visiting the festival is also an opportunity to discover the historic center, the port, and the coastline of one of the most characteristic locations on the southern Sicilian coast.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Licata Cantaloupe Melon Festival have not yet been announced by the organizers. The event is usually held in May, coinciding with the start of the ultra-early melon season, along the city's seafront on Via Principe di Napoli.
As in previous editions, a Food Village with free tastings, show cooking, live music, and activities for children is expected. The detailed program will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
The festival takes place on the Licata seafront, along Via Principe di Napoli, in the province of Agrigento (Sicily).
