About Libri a Corte

Libri a Corte is the literary festival of Atessa, in the province of Chieti. For several summer evenings, Piazza Benedetti transforms into an inviting cultural lounge for conversations with authors, readers, and publishers. Created to celebrate those who read, write, and publish books, the event weaves together novel presentations, poetry, meetings, and musical interludes, confirming the cultural vocation of Atessa, a town officially recognized as a "City that Reads."

Libri a Corte, literature in the heart of Atessa

The Libri a Corte Literary Festival is a celebration dedicated to the world of books that brings the historic center of Atessa, a town in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, to life every summer. The heart of the event is the charming Piazza Benedetti, which transforms into an inviting open-air cultural lounge: a space where the public can meet authors up close and engage with readers and publishers in an informal and convivial atmosphere.

A festival for those who read, write, and publish

The concept behind the festival is clear: Libri a Corte aims to be a literary event dedicated to the protagonists of the book worldโ€”those who read them, those who write them, and those who publish them. Each evening revolves around the presentation of a work, with the guest author sharing their process and engaging with the audience. Over the years, the festival has hosted writers, poets, and journalists, alternating between fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, while also reserving space for local Abruzzese literature.

More than just books: music and meetings

Alongside the literary encounters, the program includes musical moments that enrich the evenings and broaden the audience. The formula, which combines the written word, live dialogue, and music, has made Libri a Corte one of the most anticipated summer cultural events in the area, attracting families, enthusiasts, and curious passersby to the square.

Atessa, City that Reads

The festival is an expression of the vibrant cultural life of Atessa, recognized as a "City that Reads" for the 2024-2026 triennium, a title awarded to municipalities that promote reading as a tool for civil and social growth. The festival is organized by the Libri a Corte Association, with the patronage of the Municipality of Atessa and the support of BCC Abruzzi e Molise; the artistic direction is entrusted to Annalisa Giuliani and Simona Auriemma, with the collaboration of Antonella Pierantonio and Romolo Gargarella.

A summer appointment to experience in the square

Strolling through the ancient alleys of Atessa and then stopping in Piazza Benedetti to listen to a writer talk about their work: this is the experience that Libri a Corte offers every summer. It is an opportunity to combine the discovery of an Abruzzese village rich in history with the pleasure of reading and meeting others, in one of the most characteristic locations in the Val di Sangro.

Libri a Corte โ€” edition 2026

The Libri a Corte Association is working on the return of the literary festival to the lounge of Piazza Benedetti in Atessa. The dates and program for the 2026 edition, featuring guest authors and the usual mix of books, meetings, and music, have not yet been officially announced. As per tradition, the festival is expected to take place between late July and early August. It is recommended to follow the channels of the Association and the Municipality of Atessa for updates.
