Library Evenings

A festival that brings the village library to life

The Library Evenings are much more than a simple series of book presentations: they represent the heart of cultural life in Sommariva Perno, a hillside village in the Roero region of the Province of Cuneo, in the heart of Piedmont. From January to April, the series fills winter evenings with meetings ranging from fiction to non-fiction, health to spirituality, and current affairs to the history of the Langa and Roero areas.

Who organizes it

The event is promoted by the San Bernardino Cultural Center in collaboration with the "M. Marengo" Civic Library of Sommariva Perno. The guiding principle is the desire to bring prominent authors, scholars, and witnesses to a small town, offering the inhabitants of Roero opportunities for discussion and in-depth study without having to travel to larger centers like Bra or Alba.

What to expect

Each evening revolves around a guest and a theme. Events range from the presentation of a writer's latest novel to the sporting and human testimony of an athlete, from health prevention lessons to dialogues on art and faith with figures from the ecclesiastical world, and meetings dedicated to the social transformations of the local farming community.

The venues

The events mainly take place in the hall of the "M. Marengo" Civic Library, at Piazza Europa 4, while some more popular evenings are held in the Church of San Bernardino, at Piazza Marconi 9. Both venues are in the center of Sommariva Perno, and admission to all meetings is free, subject to availability.
