Fourteen weekends of flavor in the mountains of the Upper Caserta region
The Liberi Food Festivals are not just a single event, but a true summer-long celebration that brings the village to life throughout the season. In the municipality of Liberi, a small mountain village in the Caserta province of Campania, every summer weekend is dedicated to a different gastronomic specialty. These fourteen consecutive weekends, running from Saturday through Sunday evening, enliven the town center along Via Vittorio Emanuele starting at 7:30 PM.
The hallmark of the event is its themed format: every Saturday and Sunday, the star dish changes, ranging from rustic recipes of the Caserta hinterland to international favorites. The menu rotates from classic pasta e fagioli to gypsy-style bacon, Prague ham on a spit, and arrosticini served with the famous caciocavallo impiccato (hanged cheese), slowly melted over embers. Other highlights include Bavarian-style pork shank, Caserta black pork steak, Texas-style ribs, baked gnocchi, and the essential fried montanare.
The festival is more than just a culinary journey. Each evening is enlivened by live music, group dancing, and a spacious funfair area perfect for families and children. The organizers provide over a thousand seats and a large parking area, welcoming the many visitors who head up to the mountains of the Upper Caserta region every summer to enjoy an evening of conviviality.
Alongside the food, wine is a major star: at the Liberi Food Festival stands, you can taste Casavecchia DOC, a native grape variety of the Caserta area, along with local cheeses, cured meats, and other regional products. It is the perfect opportunity to discover a lesser-known side of Campaniaโthe mountain villages of the interior, where culinary traditions are deeply intertwined with community life.
Created to showcase the small village of Liberi and its territory, the festival has become a classic of the Caserta summer, drawing visitors from all over Campania. Admission is free, and the weekly format allows guests to return throughout the season, discovering a new dish and a different atmosphere each time.
