About King's Sausage

In Casapulla, in the heart of the Caserta province, the King's Sausage Festival celebrates a staple of Campanian peasant tradition every September: a sausage prepared according to an ancient recipe that, legend has it, King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon declared "fit for a king." Organized by the Pro Loco Casapulla with the support of the local municipality, the event brings Piazza Bellarmino to life with food stalls, buffalo mozzarella DOP, local wines like Casavecchia, and plenty of live music, all amidst the mouth-watering scent of charcoal grills and a festive atmosphere.

A festival born from a Bourbon legend

The King's Sausage Festival is one of the most beloved culinary events in Casapulla, a small town in the province of Caserta, Campania. Its name stems from a local legend involving Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who, according to popular belief, frequently visited this part of the Caserta plains. During one of his visits, he was reportedly served a sausage made with a special recipe so delicious that he dubbed it "fit for a king." The festival, which pays homage to this rustic culinary gem every year, takes its name from that very legend.

The star of the show

At the heart of the festival is the sausage, prepared according to local tradition, grilled over charcoal, and served at stalls set up in the square. It is accompanied by other icons of the Terra di Lavoro region: Campanian buffalo mozzarella DOP, local artisanal products, and provincial wines ranging from Casavecchia to Aspinoโ€”native grape varieties that tell the story of Caserta's agricultural heritage. The event is a perfect opportunity to rediscover the authentic flavors of Campanian popular cuisine in a convivial setting.

Music and festive vibes

Beyond the gastronomy, the festival offers live music performances in the square every evening, ranging from popular hits to the sounds of traditional Campanian and Mediterranean folk music, featuring local bands and groups. The atmosphere is that of a classic village fair, with families, young people, and visitors from neighboring towns flocking to Piazza Bellarmino (the market square) for the two-day celebration.

Organization and local roots

The event is promoted and organized by the Pro Loco Casapulla APS with the moral patronage of the Municipality of Casapulla. Reaching its eighth edition in 2025, the festival has firmly established itself as a staple of the late-summer calendar, successfully promoting local culinary traditions and history while attracting visitors from across the Caserta province.

  • Enjoy buffalo mozzarella DOP and typical products from the Terra di Lavoro.
