The Patronal Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle is the most anticipated event of the year in Gricignano di Aversa, a town in the Agro Aversano area of the province of Caserta, in the heart of Campania. Saint Andrew, brother of Saint Peter and the first of the apostles called by Jesus, is venerated as the town's protector: his feast has always intertwined the community's religious fervor with the warmth of a great popular festival.

Two souls, one devotion

The celebration has a unique characteristic. The liturgical feast day falls on November 30th, when the Parish Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle, located along Corso Umberto I, hosts a solemn mass followed by a procession carrying the statue of the Saint through the town center. The more spectacular civil festivities, however, are traditionally concentrated at the end of summer, with dates varying from year to year and a rich calendar of events for all ages.

Summer evenings transform Villa Comunale Mazzoni and Piazza Municipio into the town's beating heart. The schedule alternates moments of faith with opportunities for entertainment:

The event is organized by the Parish of Saint Andrew the Apostle, the Festival Committee, and the Association of the Bearers of Saint Andrew the Apostle, with the patronage of the Municipality of Gricignano di Aversa. The most moving moment remains the procession of the Patron Saint, when the bearers lift the statue among the crowd, and the return to the church is greeted by spectacular fireworks. It is in these gestures, handed down from generation to generation, that the community of Gricignano rediscovers the most authentic sense of its identity and its bond with the Campanian land.
