Allegorical floats and historical masks in the heart of the Turin Canavese
The Leinì Carnival is one of the most cherished events in the town's festive calendar, located just a few kilometers from Turin in the heart of the Canavese area. Established in 1968 thanks to the dedication of a group of passionate citizens, the Leinì Carnival has endured through the decades, maintaining its popular and family-friendly spirit and becoming a landmark event for the entire Turin metropolitan area.
The absolute stars of the festival are the traditional masks of Leinì. Conte Provana and Bela Ranera embody the town's historical identity: the Count figure recalls the noble Provana family, specifically Andrea Provana di Leynì, a Savoyard admiral who fought in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. The Bela Ranera and the Ranè character pay homage to the frogs that once populated the fields and rice paddies around Leinì, an affectionate tribute to the area's rural roots. They are joined by the quintessential Piedmontese masks, Gianduja and Giacometta.
The heart of the event is the grand parade of allegorical floats that winds through the town center. These floats, authentic papier-mâché masterpieces created by local groups and associations, arrive in Leinì from numerous towns across Piedmont—including Valperga, Livorno Ferraris, Crescentino, and Montanaro—turning the day into a vibrant celebration of color, music, and confetti. Masked groups, marching bands, and many children bring the procession to life, while some floats even offer ironic takes on current affairs.
Organized by the Andrea Provana l'Ammiraglio Historical-Cultural Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Leinì, the Carnival involves the entire community: the Alpini, the Red Cross, the retired Carabinieri Association, Civil Protection, and local police all collaborate to ensure the event's success, guaranteeing safety and hospitality. The result is a widespread, free, and inclusive day of celebration that attracts residents and visitors from neighboring towns in the Province of Turin and across Piedmont every year.
The 2026 Leinì Carnival brought the town in the Province of Turin to life on Sunday, March 8, confirming its status as one of the most popular festivals in the region. Organized by the Andrea Provana l'Ammiraglio Historical-Cultural Association with the patronage of the Municipality, the day featured allegorical floats, masks, and festive groups, with a large turnout of families and children.
The central moment of the day was the grand parade of allegorical floats through the streets of Leinì's center.
Some floats featured allegories dedicated to current events, such as peace and the end of conflicts.
The Carnival parade and events take place along the streets and squares of the center of Leinì (10040), in the Province of Turin, Piedmont.
Leinì is located about 15 km north of Turin. By car, it can be reached via the SP1 or the Turin northern bypass. The town is also served by bus connections from the regional capital. During the days of the parade, traffic diversions and parking restrictions may be in effect along the route.
The Carnival is traditionally held during the Carnival period, between February and March. We recommend checking the exact date of the current edition on the official channels of the Andrea Provana l'Ammiraglio Association and the Municipality of Leinì.
Access to the parade is free and open to everyone.
