The fantasy festival for children and adults in Lavis
Lavis fa Storie — Fantasy Festival is the cultural event that brings the historic center of Lavis, a town in the Piana Rotaliana area in the province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige, to life every spring. For two and a half days, the town transforms into a large, widespread narrative: streets, squares, and courtyards host shows, storytelling, workshops, and readings designed for children, teenagers, and families. The goal is both simple and ambitious: to restore the power of stories to bring people together, stimulate imagination, and turn urban spaces into places of shared wonder.
The program brings together over twenty-five events concentrated into just over two days. Alongside contemporary theater and circus performances, there are itinerant storytelling sessions, immersive installations, and creative workshops aimed at even the youngest children, starting from the zero-to-three age group. Read-aloud sessions, live painting, and musical moments complete a multidisciplinary lineup that balances intimate experiences with participatory activities.
A distinctive feature of Lavis fa Storie is its strong local roots. The event is conceived and organized by the Associazione Birba of Assisi — the same group that has curated the "Birba chi legge — Festa delle Storie" festival since 2018 — under the artistic direction of Alessandra Comparozzi and in collaboration with the Municipality of Lavis, the municipal library, and numerous local associations. Volunteers, readers, civil service groups, and local associations contribute to workshops and activities, while school children themselves are involved during the festival days.
Located among the vineyards of the Piana Rotaliana and just a few kilometers from Trento, the festival has become, in just a few editions, a reference point for families in Trentino looking for a high-quality event dedicated to childhood. Admission is free: some activities have limited capacity and require booking. It is an opportunity to discover Lavis, its historic center, and its tradition of hospitality, letting yourself be guided from story to story between squares and courtyards.
From April 10 to 12, 2026, Lavis fa Storie — Fantasy Festival returned for its third edition, transforming the streets, squares, and courtyards of the center of Lavis into a large, widespread storybook. Over twenty-five events concentrated into two and a half days offered contemporary theater and circus performances, itinerant storytelling, immersive installations, and creative workshops aimed at even the youngest children, from zero to three years old.
Among the most anticipated moments were Il bambino orso by the Molino Rosenkranz company, a circle-storytelling session inside a yurt, and Arcipelago by Teatro Telaio, an international sensory experience with twenty small tents explorable by children. The 2026 edition strengthened the involvement of local associations, with the opening entrusted to the town's primary school classes and the participation of volunteers, readers, and civil service groups.
Lavis is located about 10 km north of Trento, along the road to the Val di Cembra and the Piana Rotaliana. By car: take the San Michele all'Adige-Mezzocorona exit (A22 Brenner Motorway), then the SS12 towards Trento. By train: Lavis station on the Trento-Malé line, or Trento station with a connection by bus.
Admission to all activities is free. Some workshops and shows have limited capacity and require booking. Information and the full program are available at the Lavis Municipal Library (tel. +39 0461 240066, [email protected]) and on the Municipality's website.
