The fragrant purple fields of the Nora Valley in Catignano
Every summer, the Lavender Days transform the countryside of Catignano, a small town in the province of Pescara overlooking the Nora Valley, into a corner of Abruzzo's own Provence. At the Azienda Agricola Bio Casa Nora in Contrada Sterpara, the blooming lavender fields turn vibrant purple and fill the air with an intense scent, inviting visitors, families, and curious travelers to enjoy an immersive sensory experience just a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast.
The heart of the event is the opening of the field, which can be explored freely along the blooming rows. The visit, lasting about 30-45 minutes, allows you to walk through the lavender, take photographs, and pick your own bouquet to take home. A relaxation area welcomes visitors with farm products: charcuterie boards, lavender focaccia, traditional taralli, and lavender-infused water.
Alongside the visits, the program offers activities for all ages:
Launched in 2021, the event promotes organic farming and the biodiversity of the Nora Valley, offering a model of slow and agricultural tourism. It is an opportunity to rediscover the bond between the land, sustainable agriculture, and the culinary traditions of the Abruzzo hinterland.
The Lavender Days are part of the extensive Luci d'Estate summer program promoted by the Municipality of Catignano, which enlivens the town from June to September with cultural, sporting, culinary, and musical events. A summer that bridges village life in Piazza Marconi with the magic of the blooming fields in the surrounding countryside, in the heart of Abruzzo.
From July 1 to 19, 2026, the Lavender Days return to Catignano with an expanded calendar. The field of the Azienda Bio Casa Nora, in Contrada Sterpara, is open for the entire flowering period. Highlights of the program include natural cosmetics workshops for preparing lavender essential oil (booking required), the ferratelle workshop scheduled for July 11, and sound meditation sessions. There will also be stories about lavender, tastings of farm products, and a relaxation area with lavender focaccia and taralli. The initiative is part of the 34th edition of the Luci d'Estate program of the Municipality of Catignano.
Catignano is located in the hinterland of the province of Pescara. By car, from the A25 motorway (exit Chieti-Pescara or Bussi-Popoli), follow the provincial roads of the Nora Valley until you reach Catignano; the lavender field is located at Contrada Sterpara 25, near the town center.
The lavender field is generally open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Admission to the field including picking a bouquet costs approximately 8 euros per person (free for children under 6); workshops and specific activities require booking. Comfortable shoes and a hat are recommended.
There is a relaxation area with local products. For workshops and tastings, booking via the Casa Nora social media channels is recommended.
