Latschiniger Platzlfest

A village festival in the heart of the Vinschgau Valley

The Latschiniger Platzlfest is one of the most cherished summer events in the hamlet of Latschinig, a small mountain village belonging to the municipality of Castelbello-Ciardes/Kastelbell-Tschars in the Vinschgau Valley (Val Venosta), in the province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige. The South Tyrolean dialect term Platzlfest literally means "little square festival": the entire event is concentrated on the Dorfplatz, the village square, which is transformed for one evening into a large open-air gathering place.

Organized by the Farmers' Youth

The festival is promoted and managed by the Südtiroler Bauernjugend Kastelbell-Galsaun, the local branch of the South Tyrolean Farmers' Youth, one of the most deeply rooted youth associations in the valleys of South Tyrol. The local youth take care of the setup, cooking, and service, in an event that combines the rural community spirit with the joy of gathering on summer evenings. Proceeds support the association's local activities.

What to expect

The evening kicks off in the late afternoon/early evening, when the square fills with food stalls and long tables. There is no shortage of food and drinks, featuring specialties from traditional South Tyrolean and Vinschgau cuisine, beer, and local wines. Live music and entertainment accompany guests until late in the evening, in a spontaneous and relaxed festive atmosphere.

How to reach Latschinig

Latschinig is a small hamlet situated on the sunny slopes above the Vinschgau valley floor. It can be reached by traveling up from Castelbello (Kastelbell) or from the locality of Marein; the final stretch to the village center must be covered on foot. Its panoramic position, overlooking the valley, is part of the charm of this village festival, far from the main tourist flows and deeply connected to the life of the local community.
