The premier comic, cosplay, and pop culture festival in Abruzzo
In Lanciano, an elegant city in the province of Chieti in the heart of the Abruzzo Frentania region, Lanciano nel Fumetto takes place every year in early June. This event, dedicated to comics, cosplay, video games, and pop culture, has grown to become one of the benchmark festivals in Central and Southern Italy. Born over twenty years ago as a bold gamble in a territory that was then unfamiliar with the comic book world, it now attracts tens of thousands of visitors from across the country.
The venue is the lush Parco Villa delle Rose, which, with its hectares of open space, hosts pavilions, stands, stages, and themed areas. Here, the public can stroll through the Artist Alley, try out video games in the gaming zones, watch shows on the Main Stage, and admire the cosplayers who bring the two-day event to life with their elaborate costumes.
The pride of the event is its Artist Alley, now considered one of the most important on the national scene, second only to major events like Lucca Comics & Games and Napoli Comicon. It is not just an exhibition space, but a living laboratory where creators and the public meet: Italian and international comic artists, illustrators, and designers sit at their tables to sign autographs, create live sketches, and conduct workshops, putting fans in direct contact with the biggest names in the industry.
Alongside comics, Lanciano nel Fumetto offers a rich and varied program: the Cosplay Competition with the spectacular Sunday parade, the Main Stage featuring live shows, DJ sets, and themed performances, the Gaming Area with next-gen consoles and retro arcades, the Exhibition Zone dedicated to collectibles and merchandising, and even a Medieval Area with archery and historical fencing. The event is organized by the Timgad Cultural Association and offers free admission, confirming its status as one of the most popular and well-attended events in the entire province of Chieti and the Abruzzo region.
The 2026 edition of Lanciano nel Fumetto marked a historic milestone for the Abruzzo event: approximately 30,000 visitors spread across the 4.5 hectares of Parco Villa delle Rose, an increase of ten thousand attendees compared to the previous year. The festival confirmed its status as the third most important Artist Alley in Italy, behind only Lucca Comics & Games and Napoli Comicon. President Luca Veronesi and artistic director Daniele Baldacci led a two-day event packed with international guests, tournaments, cosplay, and shows.
