Contemporary dance, theatre, and music in Lanciano
The FLIC – Lanciano Contemporary Festival is the benchmark event in Abruzzo for contemporary dance, theatre, and live music. Established in 2014, it takes place every autumn in Lanciano, a city of art in the province of Chieti, and has established itself as one of the most solid appointments in the regional landscape, attracting audiences, artists, and companies from all over Italy. Since 2022, the festival has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture (MiC), a distinction that certifies the quality and continuity of the project.
The festival is promoted by the I Cinque Sensi Cultural Association under the artistic direction of Antonella Scampoli. The program weaves together different languages—body, word, sound—with a particular focus on contemporary creation and research. Each edition features national and regional premieres, productions by established companies alongside works by emerging young artists, in a constant dialogue between big names on the scene and new generations. The 2025-2027 artistic triennium revolves around the theme "BORDERS, CONFLICTS, ENCOUNTERS," which guides the selection of shows as a key to interpreting the present.
FLIC spreads its events across the most evocative locations in Lanciano: the Teatro Comunale Fedele Fenaroli, the Santo Spirito Museum Complex, the Vittorio Emanuele II High School, the Sala Mazzini, and, for outdoor performances, the Corso Trento e Trieste, a pedestrian artery in the heart of the historic center. This distributed geography transforms the city into a continuous stage, connecting historical heritage with contemporary creation.
Alongside the evening program, FLIC dedicates ample space to training and participation: masterclasses aimed at local dance schools, meetings with artists, and projects designed to engage younger audiences. The FLIC*30 – Space for Youth! call selects young Italian choreographers and companies every year for a dedicated showcase, offering the winner the opportunity to present a full production in the following edition.
With its multidisciplinary program, FLIC represents a window onto the national and international contemporary scene for Lanciano and the entire Abruzzo region, an opportunity to experience auteur dance and theatre in a charming urban setting, among the churches, museums, and streets of the Frentan city.
The 12th edition of FLIC – Lanciano Contemporary Festival takes place in Lanciano (Chieti), in Abruzzo, from September 23 to October 3, 2026. The festival, directed by Antonella Scampoli and promoted by the I Cinque Sensi Cultural Association, confirms its multidisciplinary vocation between contemporary dance, theatre, and live music, with performances distributed between the Teatro Comunale Fedele Fenaroli and other venues in the historic center.
An already confirmed appointment is the FLIC*30 – Space for Youth! showcase, scheduled for September 25, 2026: born from the national call aimed at young choreographers, groups, and companies, it offers a showcase for new contemporary creation, with the possibility for the winner to present a full production in the following edition. The full program of the 2026 edition, with the list of performances and guest artists, will be announced by the organizers in the months preceding the festival.
Lanciano can be reached by car via the A14 motorway (Lanciano-Val di Sangro exit) and by train via the Lanciano station, connected to the Adriatic line. The nearest airport is Pescara (Abruzzo Airport), about 50 km away.
Performances are mainly held at the Teatro Comunale Fedele Fenaroli and other venues in the historic center. Tickets and subscriptions are available through the festival's official channels; some outdoor events are free of charge. For information: [email protected], tel. +39 320 844 7878.
