The festival of wines from the Reggio hills in Albinea
The Lambrusco and Spergola Festival is one of the most deeply rooted food and wine events in the Reggio area. It takes place in Albinea, a municipality in the province of Reggio Emilia located on the first Apennine hills, and is organized by the Pro Loco Albinea in collaboration with the municipal administration. Born in 1964 as "Sagra del Lambrusco e degli spiriti divini" (Festival of Lambrusco and Divine Spirits), over the years it has broadened its name to give due recognition to Spergola, the ancient native white grape variety of the Reggio hills, which has always been present on the tables of the area.
The heart of the festival are the local wines. On one hand, Lambrusco, the sparkling red wine symbol of Emilia; on the other, Spergola, a white grape variety rediscovered and valued precisely in the hills between Albinea, Scandiano, and Quattro Castella. During the event, there are guided tastings curated by sommeliers, tasting stands like "Centolambruschi" and "Connubi diVini", the "Best Lambrusco of the Festival" competition, and moments of discussion with producers and the women of wine from the area.
In addition to wine, the festival is an opportunity to discover Reggio cuisine: the food stands and the Osteria del Tirabuson offer gnocco fritto, cappelletti, Parmigiano Reggiano, and other traditional specialties. There are also markets for crafts and local products, guided tours of the Communal Acetaia of Villa Tarabini, walks through the vineyard hills, and evening shows and concerts at the Frassini Park named after Margherita Hack.
The event is fully integrated into the identity of Albinea and Emilia-Romagna: a territory where food and wine culture is an integral part of community life. For the visitor, it is the ideal opportunity to combine tasting the wines of the Reggio hills with a walk in the surrounding area, among hilly landscapes, vinegar producers, and wineries. The setting is that of an authentic village festival, made of conviviality, solidarity, and attachment to one's roots.
The 60th edition of the Lambrusco and Spergola Festival marks an important milestone for the Albinea event, which has been celebrating the wines of the Reggio hills since 1964. The 2026 edition takes place from June 18 to 21 and opens on Thursday the 18th with a solidarity dinner in support of APRO ETS, benefiting the Santa Maria Nuova Hospital. Friday the 19th features the official inauguration with municipal authorities. Throughout the four days, as per tradition, there will be guided tastings of Lambrusco and Spergola, food stands with Reggio cuisine, craft and local product markets, wine competitions, and live music.
The detailed program, with schedules, concerts, and individual events, will be announced by Pro Loco Albinea in the weeks preceding the festival.
The complete program with schedules, concerts, and individual events will be published by Pro Loco Albinea closer to the event.
The festival takes place in the center of Albinea (RE), between Piazza Cavicchioni, the Margherita Hack Frassini Park, and Piazzale Lavezza.
By car: Albinea can be reached from Reggio Emilia in about 15 minutes by following the signs for the hills. The nearest train station is Reggio Emilia, connected to the high-speed line (Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana), from which you can continue by bus or car.
Access to the festival area is generally free; some guided tastings, dinners, and masterclasses may require booking and a fee.
