The fritter festival of the Rione Cappella in Pieve di Sinalunga
La Frittella della Cappella is the festival that brings Viale Trieste to life every spring in Pieve di Sinalunga, a district of the municipality of Sinalunga, in the province of Siena. Organized by the volunteers of the Rione Cappella, the event celebrates one of the most beloved specialties of Tuscan confectionery tradition: fritters, prepared on the spot and sold hot in the station area.
The festival is part of the Feast of Saint Joseph, which falls on March 19th: in Tuscany and many areas of central Italy, this holiday has always been linked to fritters, particularly the famous rice fritters. These are small, soft, and fragrant fried sweets, dusted with sugar, that embody the convivial and familiar spirit of village festivals. In the Rione Cappella, the recipe is passed down and recreated with care, keeping alive a tradition that unites generations of residents.
More than just a large fair, La Frittella della Cappella is an authentic neighborhood celebration: the stalls set up along Viale Trieste become a meeting point for the residents of Pieve and visitors from the surrounding areas. The event is also an opportunity to support the district's activities and experience the community spirit that characterizes the villages of the Sienese Valdichiana.
Pieve di Sinalunga, the historic core linked to the parish church from which it takes its name, stands at the foot of the hill where the historic center of Sinalunga stretches out. We are in the heart of the Sienese Valdichiana, a land of cultivated hills, medieval villages, and deep gastronomic traditions, a short distance from the thermal baths of Rapolano and the art cities of Siena and Montepulciano. Participating in La Frittella della Cappella means discovering the most genuine Tuscany, that of village festivals, simple flavors, and spontaneous hospitality.
The festival is traditionally held on a weekend in March, coinciding with the period of Saint Joseph. The sale of fritters continues throughout the day on Saturday and on Sunday morning, while supplies last.
The third edition of La Frittella della Cappella was held on Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, 2026, in Pieve di Sinalunga. The event, organized by the Rione Cappella, brought Viale Trieste to life in the station area with the sale of freshly prepared fritters.
Opening hours: Saturday from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM and Sunday morning from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, while supplies last.
