The international muralism festival transforming Riparbella into an open-air gallery
La Collina delle Fiabe is a muralism and urban art event held in the historic center of Riparbella, a small hillside village in the province of Pisa overlooking the Colli Marittimi and the Val di Cecina. The festival stems from an urban and social regeneration project that uses public art to restore beauty and appeal to an inland Tuscan town, turning its facades, alleyways, and walls into a true open-air museum. Each edition adds new works to those already created, building a permanent collection of contemporary muralism over time.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Riparbella and produced by the StArt Attitude association, under the artistic direction of curator Gian Guido Maria Grassi, with the collaboration of the local Pro Loco. The project, launched by the municipal administration and the association, has been consolidated through European and regional funding—including a GAL Etruria grant—and the support of the Tuscany Region, the Pro Loco, and the Riparbella Wind Farm. The curatorial approach aims to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists to the village, capable of engaging with the history, nature, and memory of the location.
The heart of the festival is the live creation of new site-specific murals: artists work for days on the village facades under the eyes of residents and visitors, and each intervention is accompanied by public meetings where the muralists discuss their work. Beyond painting, the program includes installations, art workshops, music, and theater, culminating in a festive weekend that celebrates local cuisine and Colli Marittimi wines, with tastings and food and wine tours in the district's wineries.
The inaugural 2024 edition brought six large murals to Riparbella by Zosen Bandido, Mina Hamada, Zed1, Daniel Muñoz, Gio Pistone, and Moneyless, alongside artist-designed benches and existing works. In 2025, the second edition expanded the gallery with five new works by Aris, Giorgio Bartocci, Ericailcane, Hitnes, and Tellas, inspired by history, nature, memory, and wine. The works created across the various editions have resulted in over a dozen mural interventions distributed throughout the center's streets.
Visiting La Collina delle Fiabe also means discovering Riparbella and its surroundings: a village in the province of Pisa, in Tuscany, nestled among woods, vineyards, and olive groves, just a short distance from the Etruscan Coast. The festival has become an opportunity to combine contemporary art with local culinary traditions, attracting street art enthusiasts, families, and tourists looking to experience the village in an unusual and colorful way.
The new edition of La Collina delle Fiabe is scheduled in Riparbella, in the province of Pisa, for the weekend of September 26 and 27, 2026, as indicated in the official municipal events calendar. The festival maintains its format, combining the creation of new murals in the historic center with a program of artist talks, installations, music, theater, and the promotion of Colli Marittimi cuisine and wines.
In the spring of 2026, the municipal administration published a public notice addressed to local property owners to identify new facades to be turned into urban art, expanding the village's open-air museum. The final program for the 2026 edition, including the names of the muralists and the event schedule, will be released by the organizers in the weeks preceding the festival.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including the participating artists, meeting times, and the schedule for music, theater, and tastings, has not yet been published. The official dates are September 26 and 27, 2026. For updates, we recommend checking the channels of the Municipality of Riparbella and the Pro Loco.
Riparbella is located in the province of Pisa, in the Colli Marittimi area, between the Val di Cecina and the Etruscan Coast. By car, it can be reached from the SS1 Aurelia road, taking the exit toward Cecina and then the provincial road to Riparbella; the FI-PI-LI expressway connects the area to Florence and Pisa. The nearest train station is Cecina, on the Tyrrhenian line, from where you can continue by car or bus. The reference airports are Pisa (Galileo Galilei) and Florence.
The festival takes place in the historic center of Riparbella: the murals and installations are scattered throughout the streets and squares of the village (Piazza Marconi, Piazza Matteotti, and the central streets) and are freely accessible on foot. The closing weekend focuses on music, theater, tastings, and food and wine tours in the local wineries.
Visiting the murals in the open-air museum is free and open to the public all year round. For the detailed festival program, artist talk schedules, and tasting information, we recommend contacting the Municipality of Riparbella (tel. +39 0586 697111) or the Pro Loco.
