Managed by the Fondazione Sipario Toscana, the complex on Via Tosco Romagnola houses theatres, rehearsal spaces, and a school, offering an annual theatre season that brings the best of contemporary Italian theatre to the stage from October to April.

The season positions theatre as a space for freedom, memory, and dialogue. The programme alternates between contemporary drama and great classics, while also making room for music, dance, civic theatre, and comedy, exploring themes such as love, justice, inclusion, and the environment. In recent years, the stage at La Città del Teatro has welcomed leading artists of the Italian scene: from Emma Dante to Michele Riondino, from Lodo Guenzi to Pippo Delbono, from Ambra Angiolini to Silvio Orlando, and even Arturo Brachetti, among many others. Alongside the evening performances, a special place is reserved for the new generations with the Domenica a Teatro (Sunday at the Theatre) series, dedicated to children and families.

How to get there
By car: the venue is located along the Tosco Romagnola (SS67), easily accessible from Pisa and Pontedera; take the Pisa Centro or Pontedera-Ponsacco exit from the FI-PI-LI highway. By train: Cascina station on the Pisa-Florence line is a short distance from the theatre.
