The Pro Loco's autumn festival with polenta taragna and roasted chestnuts
When autumn colours the woods of the lower Valtellina, the event that ideally closes the festival season arrives in Andalo Valtellino – a municipality in the province of Sondrio: the castagnata (chestnut festival) organised by the local Pro Loco at the Camillo De Rossi Sports Centre.
The day opens with lunch based on polenta taragna, one of the symbolic dishes of Valtellina cuisine, and continues in the afternoon with caldarroste (roasted chestnuts) distributed to all attendees, accompanied by the warm and familiar atmosphere typical of village festivals. It's an opportunity to gather around the flavours of tradition before winter.
The event, free in its spirit of community celebration, is one of the highlights of the calendar that the Pro Loco of Andalo Valtellino offers throughout the year, from the mountain festival to the Reolino to summer sports events.
For autumn 2026, the Pro Loco of Andalo Valtellino will again host the castagnata (chestnut festival) at the Camillo De Rossi Sports Centre. The event, usually held on a Sunday in October, confirms its tried-and-tested formula: lunch based on polenta taragna and, in the afternoon, roasted chestnuts for everyone.
The precise date will be announced by the Pro Loco on its official channels in the weeks preceding the event.
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Pro Loco of Andalo Valtellino. The traditional structure includes:
Centro Sportivo Camillo De Rossi, Andalo Valtellino (SO), lower Valtellina, province of Sondrio.
October, traditionally on a Sunday.
