The evening road race in Volano, Vallagarina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
L'Avellana Run is the road race that brings Volano to life every spring. Located in the Vallagarina valley in the province of Trento, in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region, this event is organized by ASD Made 2 Win Trenteam. It features a 9.9-kilometer competitive race recognized by FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation), alongside a non-competitive walk open to all enthusiasts.
The race kicks off at the Egidio Rigo Sports Field, which serves as both the start and finish point. The mixed-terrain course, featuring several uphill sections, winds through the streets around Volano, offering runners a challenging yet scenic route. The nearly ten-kilometer distance and elevation changes make the Avellana Run a popular event for runners from across Trentino and neighboring valleys, from Vallagarina to the Valle di Cembra.
L'Avellana Run is linked to the historic Trofeo Rigo Egidio, a long-standing running tradition in Volano that has surpassed thirty editions. Over the years, the race has evolved into its current format as a FIDAL-certified road race, while maintaining the grassroots, community spirit of its origins. The sports field hosting the event is named after Egidio Rigo, a key figure in local sports.
In recent years, the Avellana Run has adopted a Night Edition format. Starting in the evening, it offers participants the unique atmosphere of running at sunset and into the night. After the race, athletes and spectators gather for the award ceremony and the traditional pasta party, a convivial moment that concludes the day in a festive mood.
Thanks to the combination of a competitive race and a non-competitive walk, the Avellana Run is an event suitable for both registered athletes and those who simply want to participate for the joy of running or walking in good company. Each edition attracts dozens of participants, with local sports clubs well-represented and a loyal crowd cheering on the runners along the course.
The 2026 edition of the Avellana Run in Volano does not yet have an official date. Based on previous editions, the race is typically held in May, with the start and finish at the Egidio Rigo Sports Field. Details regarding the route, schedule, and registration will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Volano is located in the Vallagarina valley, in the province of Trento, along the Adige Valley axis. By car, it can be reached via the A22 Brennero motorway (Rovereto Nord exit) and the SS12 state road. The nearest train station is in Rovereto, just a few kilometers away, on the Verona-Brennero line.
The race starts and finishes at the Egidio Rigo Sports Field in Volano. In recent evening editions, the start time has been scheduled for the evening.
Registration and information regarding participation fees (which in recent editions included a gift for early registrants and the final pasta party) are managed by the organization via the ASD Made 2 Win Trenteam website and FIDAL channels.
