In the heart of the Upper Puster Valley, the municipality of Villabassa/Niederdorf (Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige) hosts the Kneipp Gesundheitstag every summer, a Health Day dedicated to the philosophy of Abbot Sebastian Kneipp. For an entire day, the village's charming Kurpark becomes a vibrant open-air wellness laboratory, where residents and guests discover how to care for their body and mind through simple, natural methods.

The Five Pillars of Kneipp

The entire program revolves around the five pillars of the Kneipp philosophy, which is recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage:

• Water - Kneipp paths, showers, and hydrotherapy applications;
• Exercise - walks, orientation exercises, and outdoor activities for all ages;
• Nutrition - show-cooking and healthy, wholesome recipes;
• Medicinal plants - medicinal herbs, herbal teas, and traditional remedies;
• Inner balance - yoga, forest bathing, circle dancing, and relaxation sessions.

A Program for the Whole Family

The day alternates between hourly Kneipp treatments, yoga sessions for various levels, healthy cooking demonstrations, and a rich craft market featuring local producers: honey, herbal teas, essential oils, jewelry, and wooden artifacts. Children have a dedicated space with creative workshops, including transforming small containers into mini-gardens. On the evening before the main event, the Raiffeisen Kulturhaus (Culture House) hosts an informative lecture on herbs and folk traditions related to health.

Villabassa, Italy's First Kneipp Village

Villabassa/Niederdorf is Italy's first 'Kneipp für mich' village: its Kurpark features a genuine outdoor wellness trail with hydrotherapy pools, an open-air inhalatorium, and stations dedicated to the Kneipp method. The Health Day is therefore the natural expression of the village's identity, which has made natural well-being and contact with the alpine environment its true vocation.

A Sustainable Event

The event is a certified Green Event: focus is placed on waste reduction, zero-mile products, and encouraging arrival via public transport (Puster Valley train and bus). Several restaurants and hotels in Villabassa offer special menus dedicated to healthy eating and the Kneipp philosophy during the event. Admission is free and the day takes place weather permitting.
