Summer evenings in the village square of Laion, in Val Gardena
The Lange Abende in Lajen (literally "long evenings") are the quintessential summer event in Laion (Lajen in German), a picturesque village nestled at an altitude of approximately 1,100 meters where Val Gardena branches off from the Isarco Valley, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. On select Wednesday evenings in July and August, the village square, framed by the parish church and local establishments, lights up and becomes the hub of the community's summer life.
As evening falls, the square comes alive: music resonates through the village alleys while the scent of regional culinary specialties fills the air. Locals, holidaymakers, and hikers gather to enjoy a relaxed and convivial atmosphere, an authentic expression of the vibrant South Tyrolean culture. Stalls offer local dishes and products, while musical entertainment accompanies the evening until late.
Laion is the gateway to Val Gardena: from the sunny plateau where the village stands, the view sweeps over the Dolomite peaks of the Sassolungo, the Sella Group, and the Sciliar. The Lange Abende are the ideal opportunity to discover the character of this Dolomite village, combining the exploration of the alpine landscape with the pleasure of an evening filled with music, good food, and South Tyrolean hospitality.
The common thread of these evenings is local gastronomy: the stalls set up in the square offer typical South Tyrolean dishes and products, from cured meats and alpine cheeses to traditional desserts, often paired with wines from the Isarco Valley. Laion and its hamlets are guardians of a strong rural identity and traditions that mark the entire year, from the cherry blossoms in spring to the Törggelen season in autumn. The Lange Abende represent the most convivial moment of the summer, when the village opens its square to residents and visitors alike.
The evenings generally take place from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM, with free admission. The event is organized by the Laion Tourist Association, a reference point for the calendar of events in this Dolomite village at the entrance to Val Gardena. On the dates of the Lange Abende, the town center is best explored on foot, wandering through the alleys animated by music and the terraces of the establishments overlooking the square.
In the summer of 2026, the summer evenings of Laion return with three Wednesday appointments: July 29, August 5, and August 19. On each of these evenings, from 7:30 PM until approximately 11:00 PM, the village square becomes the beating heart of the village's summer life.
Music accompanies visitors along the village alleys, while stalls offer culinary specialties from the South Tyrolean territory. A program designed to bring locals, guests, and hikers together in a relaxed and festive atmosphere at the foot of the Dolomites. Admission is free.
