Summer band concerts in the village square of Laion, Val Gardena
The Sommerkonzerte der Musikkapelle Lajen are a traditional series of summer concerts performed by the Laion (Lajen) brass band in the village square during the warmer months. Laion is a picturesque Dolomite village located at the entrance to Val Gardena, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano-South Tyrol, overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. Every summer, the Dorfplatz transforms into an open-air stage where the community and tourists gather to enjoy live music.
The summer program consists of three evening events. In the 2026 edition, the concerts are scheduled for Friday, July 24, Friday, August 14, and Friday, August 28, starting in the late evening in the village square. Admission is free: everyone is welcome to stop by, sit at the tables, and enjoy the music in the fresh mountain air.
The Musikkapelle Lajen is one of the many brass bands (Musikkapellen) that form the heart of South Tyrolean social life. With its musicians in traditional costume, the band offers a repertoire ranging from marches to polkas, waltzes, and traditional Tyrolean folk music, as well as more modern entertainment pieces. Along with the famous Frühjahrskonzert (Spring Concert), the summer concerts are the most anticipated moments of the village's musical season.
The Sommerkonzerte are more than just music; they are a true village festival. During the evenings, a small refreshment stand is set up, offering local culinary specialties, including krapfen (fried filled pastries), tirtlan (traditional Ladin and South Tyrolean savory fritters), and various drinks. It is the perfect opportunity to experience the authentic hospitality of a mountain village and discover the deep bond between the Laion community and its brass band.
The hamlet of St. Peter, part of the municipality of Laion, also hosts its own Musikkapelle St. Peter evenings, showcasing the rich band tradition of this corner of the Dolomites.
The Musikkapelle Lajen confirms its series of open-air concerts on the Dorfplatz in Laion (South Tyrol) for the summer of 2026. The events are scheduled for Friday, July 24, Friday, August 14, and Friday, August 28, 2026, starting in the late evening (around 8:30 PM) in the village square.
