About Jogglfescht Barbiano

The Barbianer Jogglfescht is the patronal feast of the village of Barbiano/Barbian, in South Tyrol, dedicated to Saint James the Apostle (known in the local South Tyrolean dialect as Joggl, from Jakobus). Every July 25th, the village square (Dorfplatz) comes alive with Holy Mass accompanied by the Jakobichor in the parish church, followed by an afternoon of traditional Tyrolean folk music hosted by the Musikkapelle Barbian. It is a traditional event that blends religious devotion, brass band culture, and village conviviality in the Isarco Valley.

The Jogglfescht of Barbiano

The Barbianer Jogglfescht is the patronal feast (Patroziniumsfest) of the municipality of Barbiano/Barbian, a small village perched above the Isarco Valley in Trentino-South Tyrol (Autonomous Province of Bolzano). The festival is dedicated to Saint James the Apostle, the community's patron saint: the dialect name Joggl derives from Jakobus, the saint celebrated on July 25th.

A village tradition

The Jogglfescht takes place every year around the patron saint's feast day, transforming the Dorfplatz, the village square, into the hub of community life. The event is organized by the Musikkapelle Barbian, the local brass band, in collaboration with the Jakobichor parish choir and the support of the community. It is a celebration that weaves together religious and folk dimensions, typical of South Tyrolean Kirchtag festivals, where the patronal anniversary becomes an occasion for gathering, music, and conviviality.

The day of the festival

The celebration begins in the afternoon with Holy Mass in the parish church of Barbiano, accompanied by the singing of the Jakobichor. After the service, the square comes to life with musical entertainment provided by the local band and traditional Tyrolean folk groups, in a festive atmosphere that continues until evening. There is no shortage of stands offering South Tyrolean culinary specialties, beer, and local wine, accompanying the day in the spirit of tradition.

Folk music and brass band culture

The heart of the festival is Alpine folk music: in past editions, groups such as the Natterer Inntaler and the Jungböhmische Barbian have performed, accompanying the afternoon with marches, polkas, and traditional Tyrolean tunes. Brass band culture is a strong identity trait of South Tyrolean villages, and the Jogglfescht is an authentic expression of it.

Barbiano and the Isarco Valley

Barbiano/Barbian is known for its panoramic position and the famous leaning bell tower of the Saint James church, one of the village's landmarks. Participating in the Jogglfescht means experiencing a genuine village festival, far from the major tourist circuits, immersed in the landscape of the lower Isarco Valley and the culture of the Municipality of Barbiano.

Jogglfescht Barbiano — edition 2026

The 24th edition of the Barbianer Jogglfescht is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2026, on the Dorfplatz in Barbiano/Barbian. As per tradition, the day includes the patronal Holy Mass with the Jakobichor and an afternoon of Tyrolean folk music organized by the Musikkapelle Barbian. The detailed program with the musical groups has not yet been released.

The Municipality of Barbiano has confirmed that the Jogglfescht 2026 will take place on Saturday, July 25, with the closure of the Dorfplatz and central streets from July 24 to 26. The structure of the festival follows tradition: Holy Mass in the afternoon at the parish church with the Jakobichor, followed by musical entertainment by the Musikkapelle Barbian and folk music groups in the square. The detailed musical program for the 2026 edition has not yet been announced.
