The open-air cinema of Plaus

Kino unter Sternen ("Cinema under the stars") is the open-air film festival that brings the big screen to the heart of Plaus, a small municipality in the Vinschgau Valley (Val Venosta) in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. The event takes place on the lawn behind the Pixnerhaus, the building that houses the village's common spaces, and in case of bad weather, screenings move indoors.

Two evenings under the stars

The program consists of two consecutive evenings in late July and early August. The first is dedicated to children's cinema, with a screening designed for families and the little ones. The second evening is aimed at an adult audience and opens with an aperitif starting at 8:00 PM, followed by the evening film at nightfall. A simple way to turn a summer evening into a moment of community, among neighbors and local families.

A community initiative

The festival is organized by the Bildungsausschuss Plaus, the village's lifelong learning committee, in collaboration with the Plauser Minis group. Established in 2022, the event is now a fixed appointment of the local summer and testifies to the vibrancy of the volunteer associations that animate the life of this small South Tyrolean municipality.

How it works

• Screenings take place outdoors in the Pixnerhaus garden, moving inside in case of rain.
• It is recommended to bring your own chair or a blanket to enjoy the film comfortably.
• The adult evening is preceded by an aperitif from 8:00 PM in an informal and convivial atmosphere.
• Admission is intended as a moment open to the entire community of Plaus and visitors passing through the Vinschgau Valley.

Plaus and the Vinschgau Valley

Nestled along the Adige River between Merano and Naturno, the municipality of Plaus is one of the gateways to the Vinschgau Valley, a valley known for its apple orchards, irrigation channel paths (Waalwege), and alpine landscapes. Events like Kino unter Sternen tell the story of the bilingual and communal soul of South Tyrol, where small village events remain at the center of summer social life.
