A stage suspended over Lake Caldaro

The Kalterer Seespiele (literally "Lake Caldaro Stage") is a summer concert series that has been enlivening the shores of Lake Caldaro—the warmest swimming lake in the Alps—for over twenty years. The event takes place in Caldaro sulla strada del vino (Kaltern an der Weinstraße), in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. It features a unique characteristic that sets it apart in the entire region: the stage is built directly on the water within the Seebad Lido at St. Josef am See. It is the only lakeside venue in South Tyrol, a true natural amphitheatre where music resonates across the water as the sun sets behind the vine-covered hills.

Great artists under the stars

Over the years, the festival has built a solid reputation thanks to a lineup that alternates between Italian stars and international legends. The Lido stage has hosted artists such as Status Quo, Uriah Heep, Bonnie Tyler, Kim Wilde, James Blunt, Lena, Mark Forster, and Silbermond—names that testify to the international level achieved by an event born in a small South Tyrolean wine-growing village.

Three Tuesday evenings

The format is well-established: three concerts on Tuesday evenings, spread across the second half of July and early August. Each show begins at 9:00 PM, with doors opening at 7:00 PM, allowing guests to enjoy the sunset over the lake before the music starts. The intimate capacity of the Lido ensures a close connection between artists and the audience, offering an experience quite different from large open-air festivals.

Caldaro and the Wine Road

The setting is Caldaro sulla strada del vino, one of the iconic villages of South Tyrolean viticulture, famous for its Schiava grapes and the vineyard landscape surrounding the lake. Attending a Kalterer Seespiele concert means combining music with a lakeside evening in one of the most characteristic spots in South Tyrol, easily accessible via a free shuttle service from the town centre.
