About KalataReggaeNight

KalataReggaeNight is the major summer festival of reggae and Sicilian black music that transforms Calatafimi-Segesta, in the province of Trapani, into the island's reggae capital every year. Born from the need to provide a stage for alternative and independent Sicilian music, the event has been organized since its inception by the band Shakalab together with the iconic local venue Il Chiosco. A free-entry evening that gathers fans, sound systems, and artists to celebrate reggae under the August sky.

KalataReggaeNight, the Sicilian capital of reggae

Every summer, the small town of Calatafimi-Segesta, in the heart of the Trapani province, Sicily, transforms for one night into the island's reggae capital. KalataReggaeNight is one of the longest-running and most beloved musical events in the region: an evening entirely dedicated to reggae, hip-hop, and black music, drawing fans from all over Western Sicily and beyond.

Origins and Identity

The festival was born from the need to give proper space to alternative and independent Sicilian music. It has been organized and promoted since its first edition by the band Shakalab, a historic reggae and hip-hop collective with roots right in Calatafimi-Segesta, together with Il Chiosco, a symbol of the town's nightlife and culture. Thanks to them, the town has become, according to local chronicles, the "Sicilian capital of reggae," a landmark for the island's underground scene.

The Atmosphere

KalataReggaeNight is first and foremost a community gathering: upbeat rhythms, sound systems, surprise guests, and plenty of popular participation. The evening takes place in the squares of the historic center of Calatafimi-Segesta and has always maintained a free admission policy, faithful to the independent and inclusive spirit that inspired its creation.

Calatafimi-Segesta and its surroundings

The festival is also an opportunity to discover Calatafimi-Segesta, a village in the province of Trapani famous for the Segesta archaeological site, featuring one of the best-preserved Doric temples and Greek theaters in Sicily. The reggae night is part of a rich summer calendar that brings the town to life between July and August, filled with food festivals, shows, and popular traditions.
