The reggae night of Calatafimi-Segesta, the Sicilian capital of reggae
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every summer, the small town of Calatafimi-Segesta, in the heart of the Trapani province, Sicily, transforms for one night into the island's reggae capital. KalataReggaeNight is one of the longest-running and most beloved musical events in the region: an evening entirely dedicated to reggae, hip-hop, and black music, drawing fans from all over Western Sicily and beyond.
The festival was born from the need to give proper space to alternative and independent Sicilian music. It has been organized and promoted since its first edition by the band Shakalab, a historic reggae and hip-hop collective with roots right in Calatafimi-Segesta, together with Il Chiosco, a symbol of the town's nightlife and culture. Thanks to them, the town has become, according to local chronicles, the "Sicilian capital of reggae," a landmark for the island's underground scene.
KalataReggaeNight is first and foremost a community gathering: upbeat rhythms, sound systems, surprise guests, and plenty of popular participation. The evening takes place in the squares of the historic center of Calatafimi-Segesta and has always maintained a free admission policy, faithful to the independent and inclusive spirit that inspired its creation.
The festival is also an opportunity to discover Calatafimi-Segesta, a village in the province of Trapani famous for the Segesta archaeological site, featuring one of the best-preserved Doric temples and Greek theaters in Sicily. The reggae night is part of a rich summer calendar that brings the town to life between July and August, filled with food festivals, shows, and popular traditions.
The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: the program and line-up are usually communicated in the weeks leading up to the event via the organizers' official channels.
At the moment, the organizers have not yet published the official dates for the 2026 edition of KalataReggaeNight. Based on previous editions, the reggae night in Calatafimi-Segesta (Trapani province) is usually held in the latter part of August, with free admission. The detailed program and guest artists will be announced closer to the event on the official channels of Shakalab and Il Chiosco. This page will be updated as soon as information becomes available.
Calatafimi-Segesta can be reached by car via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway (Segesta exit), about an hour from Palermo and 40 minutes from Trapani. The Segesta-Tempio railway station is connected to the Palermo-Trapani line.
The event is free of charge.
The event traditionally takes place in late August in the squares of the historic center of Calatafimi-Segesta.
We recommend checking the organizers' social media channels (Il Chiosco and Shakalab) for the date, time, and line-up of the current edition.
