World-class international jazz within the walls of Castello Banfi and the Montalcino Fortress, in the heart of Brunello country.
Jazz & Wine in Montalcino is one of the longest-running and most prestigious jazz festivals in Tuscany. Born in the late nineties from a collaboration between the Banfi estate, the historic Alexanderplatz Jazz Club in Rome, and the Municipality of Montalcino, the festival has built an unmistakable formula over the years: bringing the biggest names in world jazz to the most beautiful spots in the home of Brunello, in the province of Siena.
The original concept was to unite two Italian excellences—quality music and wine—within one of the most celebrated landscapes in Tuscany. The artistic direction, curated by the Rubei family of Alexanderplatz, ensures a top-tier lineup every year.
Concerts take place in two exceptional locations. The opening evenings are held at Castello Banfi, in Poggio alle Mura in the Sant'Angelo Scalo area, a stunning medieval fortress surrounded by vineyards. The second part of the festival moves within the walls of the Montalcino Fortress, a 14th-century stronghold that overlooks the village and the hills of the Val d'Orcia.
The 29th edition runs from July 20 to 26, 2026, featuring seven evenings dedicated to the best of contemporary jazz. Announced headliners include the Kenny Garrett Electric Band with their tribute to Miles Davis, Danilo Rea with Doctor 3, a collaboration between Hamid Drake and Antonello Salis, the Stefano Di Battista Quintet featuring Paco Sery, the Rosalia de Souza Bossa Band, the Rita Marcotulli Quartet with special guest Andy Sheppard, and closing with the Enrico Rava Quintet. All concerts start at 9:45 PM.
What makes Jazz & Wine in Montalcino a unique event is the complete experience it offers: concerts are always paired with tastings of local wines and the opportunity to discover one of the most fascinating villages in Tuscany. Montalcino, world-renowned for its Brunello, welcomes jazz and food-and-wine enthusiasts every summer in a pairing that has become the festival's trademark.
For those visiting the Val d'Orcia in summer, the festival is the ideal opportunity to combine great music, UNESCO World Heritage landscapes, and the oenological excellence that has made Montalcino famous worldwide.
The 2026 edition offers seven evenings, all starting at 9:45 PM, under the artistic direction of Eugenio Rubei of the Alexanderplatz Jazz Club in Rome. The festival opens at Castello Banfi and concludes within the walls of the Montalcino Fortress.
The program alternates between US jazz stars and protagonists of the Italian scene, in a journey that traverses bebop, fusion, bossa nova, and contemporary improvisation. Each concert is accompanied by a tasting of local wines, starting with the famous Brunello di Montalcino.
The most anticipated moments of the 29th edition are the inaugural concert by the Kenny Garrett Electric Band with their tribute to Miles Davis at Castello Banfi, the evening with Danilo Rea and Doctor 3, and the closing performance by the Enrico Rava Quintet "The Fearless Five". The Rita Marcotulli Quartet with special guest Andy Sheppard is also unmissable.
